Guest guest
Hi Dana, I have never been athletic, so getting RA didn't change anything there, LOL. But I do try to exercise and think that it's good for people with RA to do as much exercise as they are able. The exercise should be gentle on the joints, however. How well your RA is controlled will determine how much you can participate in athletics, I would think. You just need to listen to your body and try not to overdo it. Have you asked your rheumatologist what physical activities would be appropriate for you? Guest guest
I know what you mean!! I loved hiking, running, martial arts. I had to give up running. Cut back on martial arts and as for hiking, I try to get some in when I feel real good. Well, ok, so I don't get much hiking done either. I have a hard time with working!!! One thing I did do was purchase a Total Gym. You know, the one that Chuck Norris advertises? I bought online at QVC. I got the idea from going to physical therapy. It is low impact and allows for a lot of different exercises. I have noticed that it helps keep me limber and has helped some with the stiffness. I have also built up some of the muscle I lost. Best advice I can offer is to first: go see a Sports Medicine Orthopedist. They can offer the best way to get back in your game. Second: see about getting a personal trainer. They can work with you on what your limitations are and what you want to work on. There are some places that do physical therapy that also have personal trainers. The orthopedic doc can also get you hooked up with that. He could even get you hooked up with a physical therapist to do strenghth training so your insurance will cover it!!...Hope it helps and welcome to the group...... Marina in Ohio > > > Hi, All.
