Guest guest
How did your husband doing CPR on your daughter work if her airway swelled shut. Caitlyn's airway swells shut frequently because of scar tissue and a paralyzed vocal chord already blocking half her airway. Yet I'm always afraid to spend time away from calling 911 to do CPR because I don't see how forcing air through an airway that's blocked will help. The drs are no help to me on this, they just don't even acknowledge that I'm talking. Each dr I've talked to, yes I've asked to talk to other drs I've switched drs, they just don't want to listen to a parent ask a question which they can't answer I guess. You said they sedated and paralyzed her--did they have to intubate her? If not, were they not concerned about her breathing? If they did, wasn't this harder on her airway? I'm really sorry for so many difficult questions, but the next time Caitlyn goes into the hospital for her airway swelling shut, I want to be prepared especially because the first thing they always say is, let's scope and trach her. We've narrowly missed a trach each time coming very very close at times. One time the only thing that prevented it is she was febrile and they preferred intubating her until the fever passed. By that time, her airway had opened up enough to breath without the trach. And people wonder why I don't want my kids around their kids when their kids are sick? It's a no brainer, so why are these parents so rude about it? And yes, we've gone the oral steroid route many times, and yes, Caitlyn turns into a puffed up bear too. Just miserable while on it.
