I don't think it matters if you are in remission. Here is a good explanation:

Thank you Anne, I think that too, it seems like it would show no

matter what if you have MS.

I read somewhere (not sure where) that if you are in exaberation you have a better chance of it coming out positive for MS. I for one have had 3 spinal taps and they have all came out negative, but that doesn't mean you still don’t have MS. A lot of the time it does come out negative. Let us know how it goes and your results.

I thought I was in remission when I underwent my LP. Still, my neuro

indicated that the LP results were consistant with MS. They look at

the LP results along with the other tests, blood, MRIs, reflex

physical exam, etc. to Dx MS.

Hi Jackie, what if all my other tests came back normal can they still

make a diagnosis of MS just from the LP, if it is positive for signs

of MS? What happened is , I had a white spot on my mri and they said

it was not a good picture so they took it again and they said after

that one that I have a normal brain mri, I still don't know to this

day what the white spot was, and they don't either, but it was there,

but it does not count they say so that is why they ordered the LP. so

I am wondering if that will clinch a diagnosis?

I only know of my own experience and of experiences I have heard from

others. They are varied, so your specific case may not be exactly the

same. If your " white spot " was not visable in a later MRI, that would

not mirror my own MRIs. My lesions don't go away. They appear white

in an contrast MRI when they are " active " and gray when they are not

active, but they are still visible on the MRIs.

I had classic MS symptoms. I had sever optic neuritis (blurry vision)

and exagerated relexes. I had some serious numbness down the right

side of my body. I had pain on the left side of my cervical spine.

All these things, along with the MRIs, and the LP, indicated MS.

There is no one test that we can take and know that we have MS. It

seems they confirmed all the things that I don't have. I don't have

Lupus. I don't have Lymes disease. I don't have a lot of other

things, SO ... it must be MS. That's my take on it, anyway.
