Guest guest
Jo, were your feet numb, aching, and burning before you used Arava? Just wondering since there are reports of leflunomide-induced peripheral neuropathy. > > Hello group...my name is Jo , I havent been on line with you for some > time...I was diagnosed with RA almost 3 years ago and I'm doing pretty well > with Plaquenil, and Arava. The most important thing is to do all that you can to prevent your feet from becoming so irritated, and orthotics (arch supports) are a must! I assume you are wearing comfortable shoes and not suffering for fashion? At the end of the day, soak your feet in cool water and massage them in a peppermint scented lotion afterward. Then lie down with feet elevated with ice packs on them. Have you consulted your doctor? Sierra

Guest guest
I put on my tennis shoes with orthotics as soon as I get up, to help me walk. All those tiny bones and joints in my feet don't seem to want to flex in the morning or after sitting in the car for any length of time (I have RA, FM, OA and Sjogrens). I *never* walk around barefoot or only in socks. Hurts too much. I've already had surgery on both feet for neuromas. Putting on those orthotics is " like a drink from a cool spring " . I would highly recommend them. I do have a question, though. Since I use them everyday, they have become worn out - the felt-like covering is worn completely through in places, and one has snapped in half. Can I just call my dr. and get another set? I still have my original molds. Also, what do all of you do when the situation calls for dress shoes? I can't use the orthotics in them, but I hate showing up everywhere in my tennys. Recommendations? Thanks, Vikki

Guest guest
Vikki, It's worth a phone call to see if you can get new orthotics from the mold. Dress shoes isn't so easy. I sometimes can find and extra wide pair that are comfortable for short times. Other than that, I stick to sneakers. a On Mon, 3 Jan 2005 03:24:26 -0500, Vikki Wingfield <VWAvon@...> wrote: > > I put on my tennis shoes with orthotics as soon as I get up, to help me walk. Guest guest
Vikki, I know what you mean about the orthotics. It took some getting used to, but they make all the difference in the world. I currently have a broken 4th and 5th metatarsal and have to where a walking boot. I stick my orthotic in that thing too!!. It helps. Especially with the plantar fascitits. As for dress shoes, I have a pair of Spenco inserts. You can get them at most shoe stores (like Famous Foot Wear) or at Physical Therapy facilities (like Health South). I cut them to fit my shoes and they offer arch support. They are great when my broken foot is too swollen for the regular orthotics. The other thing to try are Dr. Scholl's inserts. They are made to be cut to size as well. As for your orthotics, call the doctor's office you had them made at and see if they can make another pair. Depending on how long it has been, they may want to make new molds, unless you go to someone who has the new system that has a computerized pad you walk on and it measures from your steps....Hope it helps...Marina --- In , " Vikki Wingfield " <VWAvon@c...> wrote: > I put on my tennis shoes with orthotics as soon as I get up, to help me walk. Yes, you can call and get anothre set made, though many insurance companies will pay for one new set a year, and since your feet may have changed, it would be best to get new molds made. > > Also, what do all of you do when the situation calls for dress shoes? They're double wide (but look slim) and my full-size orthotics fit inside them. My podiatrist recommended Nordstroms because the staff is knowledgable.
