Hi Barbie,

Welcome to the PSC support group. I'm Janet from Ohio, and my husband

was diagnosed 8/99 PSC & UC.

I've recently joined the group, too and have found comfort, encouragement and

education from many members.

Glad you joined!

Janet

Tricia,

Welcome to the group!!! Your life sounds a lot like mine. I am 31

and will be married for 11 years in August. I am also a mother, I have four

boys ranging from 1 year to 10 years. I am also in stage one with PSC. I have

been pretty much asymptomattic, mine was found thru routine blood tests this

spring. I take 900mg of actigall a day. I know what you mean when it comes to

losing weight, I have lost 17lbs since I was put in actigall the beginning of

April. At first I was happy cause I still had some baby weight to loose, but

now I am beginning to get a little worried. I was wondering why you went off

Actigall and if it had anything to do your weight loss. I am sorry to hear

about your mother, but am glad to know she is at peace and no longer

suffering. How old was she and how long had she had liver problems? I look

forward to talking with more in the future!!!

,

Have you lost weight because of taking the Actigall? Are you having

side effects that is causing this? Did you gradually build up to your dose

or did you jump right in?

My doctor just prescribed this for me at a dosage of 1500 mg/day. I

haven't started taking it yet - just want to get some info first.

Barby,

Hi! How are you? I really am not sure the answer to your question. I

have only PSC not UC or any other problem. I started taking the Actigall all

at once, I did not notice any real problems except for the fact that if I ate

something with a lot of fat in it, it would go right thru me. So I stopped

eating anything that would bother me (which could be reason for weight lose,

less fat in diet). That and I seem to not really have much of an appetite,

things seem to taste different. My husband thinks it just stress due to

finding out about the PSC and that I will get back to normal once I get over

the shock of being diagnosed with this, especially since I have no signs or

symptoms of the disease. Sorry I have no real answer for you, but I am going

to keep taking the Actigall, I think the benefits out way the side effects,

plus I think most people do not have any side effects at all.

Tina,

I just wanted to say HI!! and it is nice to meet you also. I agree with

you, I will continue to take the Actigall, I think the benefits out way the

side effects. I thought it was funny, that I too weigh 110lbs. I am 5 foot

tall, how about you, not to many people I know weigh that. Well, hope to talk

to you soon!!
