Cheryl, do you happen to have a good link for CBT so that I can look this

up? It sounds very interesting, I hadn't heard of it before and would love

to look into it.

Thanks,

Marita in Montana

Hi,

I have used CBT, and still do. Its a wonderful tool to help you

recognize where your thinking stinks, and how you have mentally backed yourself

into a corner etc. A few years ago, I was counting pills and thinking bad

thoughts, so i checked myself into the hospital. They used CBT and I have a

whole workbook of worksheets ets that i saved from my time in the hospital and

as an outpatient.

I can tell you this much.. I recognize much faster when i am getting

into trouble and act to correct my thinking and take responsibility

MUCH faster. I also learned a lot of coping techniques for ther

things I can not change.

I learned that i thought in absolutes a lot. Like this ALWAYS happens, or I

NEVER have things go right etc etc... this can signifigantly narrow your

options, or set you up to never try and expect the worst, and not appreciate

when things do go right etc.

I learned a lot about anger, and how its a good thing, and how to

handle it better. I learned how thoughts feelings and emotions work

together either for you or against you, and now recognize when I am

setting myself up for problems.

I DO have the tools I need for the rest of my life. When I begin to see a

downward spiral. I go right back to my workbook, or to the therapist and get a

tune up and back on track again.

I learned to live in the moment instead of constantly stewing over what may or

may not happen, and what i feared. This does not mean i dont take responsibility

for my choices, but I am also not trying to be overcontroling and obsessing over

things. Worrying is not

productive, you do what you can and let go. It takes time to learn

these new habits and ways of thinking, but it is SO worth the effort.

I will NEVER EVER allow myself to go back into that black hole I

worked so hard to crawl out of. And now I have the tools to make sure

of it. I really got results from CBT in a quick way. When I moved here and

needed a new counselor for my tune ups, I sought out one who used CBT

techniques. Ask about it when you are looking for a counselor.

Basically with CBT you can take out the trash in your life without

digging through the whole pile. You just learn how to take it to the

curb and LEAVE it there.

happy new year to all of you,ive been reading some post that go into

c.b.t this sounds like a good thing, can some one explain what this

is, it sounds very helpful, thanks mike
