If the " nursing home " is skilled than home health is not an option. If it is

not skilled, you may consider it their " home " and provide home based care. If

the center has nuring and aides (as they all do), then the homecare provider

would not bill for nursing or aide services. This means the PT would be the

casemanager from the start of care and OT and/or ST could also be provided. If

only RNs are casemanagers at your site, then the nursing visits are non-billable

and you will likely be unable to provide the care within reimbursed rates. I'd

be happy to talk more directly at gconnor@...

small rural hospital to provide outpatient/inpatient PT and ST, some skilled

beds available. Our query is finding a way to provide service to 2 local Nursing

Homes who currently have no service. One has a few skilled beds, the other has

none. Several years back, an inpatient of one facility could be treated as an

outpatient of another facility? Is that still true? If so it would seem that

the NH patients with therapy orders could be seen as outpatients through the

outpatient dept at the hospital. If not, is seeing these patients through a

home health agency acceptable? We are trying to find a way to provide service

to these patients and not lose our shirt at the same time. Any comments,

suggestions or laughter would be appreciated.
