That is very true. Back when I was driving the special needs school bus. I had a

parent that had applied with Medicaid to help her get a van for her daughter.

the child was profound so her child was one of these that had been specially

made for her and it was huge. even mind was profoundly delay, her body

grew normal and both parent were at least 6 ft. so anyways. the child rode my

bus for about 2 years and when she stopped riding they moved to another county

but they still did not have that van. And Mother had no way to transport

her legally. she had a Suburban. which they had done the best with they could.

But to transport her and secure her with any kind of seatbelt was almost

impossible. as her muscle had drown her arms and legs. anyways.

I just think Medicare does some pretty stupid stuff.

My husband built my Mama a little ramp to get my Mama's rascal out the door. but

she has never used it. :( that would probably be your best bet if you could

find someone.

Question about Midicare

Hi Everyone,

I was put on Medicare as of 09/01/2009 and I'm clueless. How would I find

out if Medicare covers wheel chair lifts or ramps for a van. I just got my

power chair but can not get it out of the apt. I need the wheel chair to get

around where they don't offer the scooter. Thanks for any advice!

Bob,

I used to have a friend who worked for a local church building ramps for people

who needed them. That might be something to check out in your area. Just a

thought.

Re: Question about Midicare

Bob, I think that Medicare will only pay for the power chair. that is what they

told my Mama. they will not pay for the scooter, the ramp for the power chair,

or and of the accessories for it. at least that is what they told my mama. the

only extra she got was the thing to hold her o2 tank. but if you look on Craig's

list or ebay you might could find one much cheaper than new.

Hi Alanna,

I've found the ramp that I was looking for. I needed one that would work with

the rear of my mini van.  Thanks for the info, I found the at E-Bay and its in

my price range. All I need to do is measure the back of the van.  The apt I live

in now is not in any way ADA friendly.  I've found a place that is perfect for

me. The complex is level and sits next to 2 very large shopping centers!!  I'm

looking to move soon and I'm pretty sure the apt management here will not give

me a hard time for breaking my lease 4 months early or at least that is what I'm

hoping for.  Thanks again for the info and support!!! I'm not sure what I would

do without this group!!!!!!!!!
