Guest guest
Bernadette, What great pix. Now if we could only identify the people for those of us who didn't make it. Maybe if you guys would tell us, like 3rd pix top row, red hair. Something like that. I am curious who all you brave souls are. Guest guest
<< MTX,Steroid jabs, voltorol >> Hi , I know a most of us sympathize on the subject of " better living through chemistry " We all hate taking so many meds. Years ago, I hated having to take synthroid every day; then estrogen after having a hysterectomy; then nsaids and mtx and folic acid.... then antihypertenves because the BP went way up after the MTX and nsaids... then lipid lowering meds when dietary modifications did not help and after 2 of my sisters had cardiac bypass surgery in their early 50's....After a lot of problems accepting that my body functions because of the availability of pharmaceuticals, I stopped thinking of myself as a toxic waste dump. I do stay attentive to watching for any untoward effects, monitor the BP, have my labs done on time etc..... I am not ready to relinquish any more of the quality of my life right now than I have had to. I have found that worry and anxiety are big triggers, so I really try not worry about by focusing on gratitude that I have some recourse with all of this. This is not to say that this came about over night, or that it is easy, and some days are harder than others to deal with handfuls of pills. Good luck on your PA journey! in Wisconsin

Guest guest
Hi Frances, Regarding Direct Entry, I think the NMC stance that only groups with nurse in their title will, to some degree, obviate the need to demonstrate that there is some element of nursing in direct entry health visiting. Acknowledging that their exact position changes by the hour, the most recent NMC indication is that the third part of the register will be devoted to Specialist Community Public Health Nurses and will incorporate health visitors as well as others, possibly school nurses and occupational health nurses. As a senior lecturer in Plymouth, I am constantly approached by nursery nurses and others with relevant experience or education who are appalled at the hurdles they must clear to enter the health visiting profession. Locally, it would take about 18 months from application to beginning on a pre-reg programme. After 3 years on a diploma in nursing, trusts then advertise for prospective HV students with 2 years post reg experience. Current CHCN programmes have many generic modules, which means that a candidate endures about 7.5 years waiting and training to reach the two core modules devoted specifically to health visiting practice! Can there be any more persuasive case for the lucid approach to preparation that direct entry to health visiting/specialist community public health nursing would provide? Clearly, those of us who would be developing curricula for these programmes are, by virtue of our own backgrounds, well placed to determine the amount of nursing content relevant to the role. Why are the powers that be so afraid of allowing us to rationalise and modernise the porfession? This is exactly the reason that finally motivated me to start weaning myself off Paxil. I no longer responded emotionally to anything. God, it was awful. Of course, now, I cry at the drop of a hat. However, that is much better than losing myself. Have gone from 40 mg to 10 mg and can even skip days without the electrical zaps. I feel like I am being reborn. What a wonderful Christmas gift! I also want to say that the information and kindness of the people on this list has helped immeasurably, as well. Thank you. Ellen

There is no question that coming out of that drug-induced haze enabled me to gain more clarity than I've ever had in my life. You are at the beginning of a wonderful process that will restore your faith in yourself and the world around you. Its like Rumpelstilskin waking up after a hundred years.
