Guest guest
Hi Ladies,This has been a very useful and informative group. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for the good health and well being of your children. My 5 year old, Ella, has suffered from severe constipation since she was 1 years old. It has been very challenging in so many ways. Potty training was slow and arduous. She would find a closet and stand, arched back, to try to have a bowl movement in her panties. She was upset and ashamed; I was frustrated and had tried everything to help her. I saw our regular pediatrician, the holistic pediatrician, tried acupuncture, magnesium, etc. Until a few weeks ago, Ella still stood at the body, trying to have a bowl movement standing up... or trying to refrain from having a "painful poop." I finally went to a pediatric gastroenterologist which has helped in that we cleared her colon out with Milk of Magnesia, removed all apples, bananas and rice from her diet and he advocates that the key is "painless poops." He suggested Miralax twice a day, which definitely works, but I was very uncomfortable with feeding my darling girls polyethylene glycol -- a chemical I have been avoiding in my family's personal care products AND now I am feeding her spoonfuls of it. It seemed very wrong. In researching alternatives, I came upon this group and it helped solidify my conviction to NOT use Miralax anymore, despite my doctor assuring me it is safe. So, I wanted to share with you all that I am having GREAT success with giving Ella probiotics (I've tried various brands and Nature's Way's "Primadophilus Kids" is most effective and tastes good) in place of the Miralax. I make sure Ella drinks plenty of water and has 1 Fiber One bar a day. It has been almost two weeks of daily "Painless Poops" (she remains seated on the potty). I am thrilled and relieved to finally have found a routine that works. I hope this is helpful to the group. Thank you to all of you for sharing your wisdom.Wishing everyone well,Janine NicollIrvine, CA
