Guest guest
In Colo., <25 hours of DIRECT patient care is considered part time. That is what I do, and it about half the cost. I actually work more hours doing all the other stuff we do, but it works. Hours 9-12 and 2-5 four days a week in care. Of course, it often goes beyond 5 and some on the weekends but who's counting? ________________________________________ From: [ ] On Behalf Of Eads [michelle.eads@...] Sent: Monday, September 12, 2011 7:12 PM To: Subject: RE: Malpractice Insurance Fees and Part-time Status Do it Eads, MD Pinnacle Family Medicine Colorado Springs, CO www.PinnacleFamilyMedicine.com From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of ldlcsamson Sent: Monday, September 12, 2011 6:19 PM To: Subject: Malpractice Insurance Fees and Part-time Status I am considering cutting down my hours to 25 to save on malpractice insurance costs. Guest guest
Thanks for the input. Will use the parttime option as cost difference is huge and can make it work within those hours. Guest guest
Hey Liza ~ YEP! Part time is way to go for sanity and malpractice rates. After 6 years in practice I am paying less than 4K per year! Even got money back somehow last year. . .Okay. . . Cool! Guest guest
In New York if you are on call for yourself you can't claim part time status. Every year I try but if I answer a single phone call out of the 20 hours they allow as part time then my insurance will be null and void! Good luck. Guest guest
Just be careful how you report your hours. My schedule is similar: 9-12 and 2-5, but the underwriter counts the 2 hour break as " office posted hours " and therefore is counting towards total patient care hours. It is baloney, but I am stuck! Guest guest
Who told you this MLMIC themselves some attorney, the medical society... another doc???? Who and what was the source of this information? I was about to have it out with MLMIC myself over the concept of number of patients seen per day per week verses posted office hours... Clearly a doc who sees as many patients in a day or so as some IMP's see in an entire week, rocking 'em thru like a deli counter meat market, has so many more times increases in exposure and risk, 1) just because of the difference in volumm itself no less the lower level of care and less attention to details or more facts and issues, per patient.. We all know their bean counters have worked these numbers and have access to this kind of data... We the small and slow careful personal practices are offsetting and actually financing either the increased risk and losses for those other docs and their carriers while we are getting taken to the cleaners and our pockets picked clean.... Guest guest
MLMIC -- repeatedly, once a year for the last 3 years! There is a long process to appeal it if you have the time. I didn't since they said others have and it has ALWAYS been turned down. Guest guest
If you have disability insurance, make sure you are working the minimum for them. The company I use requires 20 hrs minimum to maintain the insurance. Craig > > > In Colo., <25 hours of DIRECT patient care is considered part time. That is > > what I do, and it about half the cost.
