Guest guest
Welcome to the List Joe. I too am new here and the subject you raise is of interest to me. I have been in Afib since 1991, in and out to 95, chronic since then. Except for a cardioversion in 1996 which failed, I was not using Warfarin. I am 59 and have lone AF. I did recently have an AV node ablation and pacer and will be on Warfarin for life. The " conventional wisdom " if there is such a thing, from the literature and the doctors I have consulted in the past, was that Warfarin was not necessary for Lone Afibbers under age 63. So I was not on it for several years. In November of 1999, I did develop a clot in my right leg and the normal therapy for that is warfarin for about 4 months and then stop. But I kept taking it. Some internists and cardiologists said I could stop, some said it was mandatory. My primary treater suggested I continue it out of an abundance of caution. One might ask where I get all of these doctors giving advice. I am an attorney who specializes in workers' compensation. Not an insignificant part of my practice deals with whether heart problems are work related, and thus I deal with a lot of internists and cardiologists. So in discussing the problem generally and specifically, I got a variety of opinions on this and other matters. Barry --Corte Madera, CA AFIB questions Hi, I'm new to this group. Was diagnosed with AFIB about 4 years ago, but my doctors seem to know little about it. Recently moved to Ohio and the new doctor was horrified that I wasn't on Coumadin. So, I'm on it now. I have a lot of swelling from water retention in my lower legs. Does anyone know if daily walkiing would help improve the circulation? Has anyone experienced getting out of AFIB? They did try a cardioversion on me right after they discovered the condition, but it didn't change anything. Just curious to know what others are doing to live with this or improve life and health with it.
