Guest guest
I read these posts about the difficulties these children are having with bowel movements and I can not help but respond. My son, who is now five, has had a lot of issues with bowel movements. First, they were too large and then he started holding them (we were not aware of this at the time) and started going in inappropriate places. Later, he lost the urge to push altogether (at the time I did not understand that it was possible to " lose the urge " but it is). I found this website because we were on Miralax and I did not like that if he did not have it, he would not go. Finally, I found a diagnosis of Encopresis(having bowel movements in inappropriate places). He no longer has encopresis but now has severe constipation. I found a website called soiling solutions and we have been doing it. It has been a relief to my son's self esteem, a relief to my " pulling my hair out days " and now we don't talk about poop until the hour of the protocol. My son still has issues because this is not a quick fix, instead, as most of you are probably aware, it takes as long to heal from encopresis(their bowels become so stretched that it accumulates, causes blockages and constipation) as it took to get that bad. I would encourage you to look up the diagnosis and understand that the protocol actually works for severe constipation as well. Just to let you know, in our four years of struggle my son has had a prolapsed rectum and been diagnosed with mega colon. I am so angry about this because had the three pediatricians we sought out to help with this problem had diagnosed it instead of saying it was an age thing then my son would not be struggling today.
