I agree with you about the INCHARGE meter. I agree with you 100%. I've had

it since it was out.

I wish I could download the meter to MY computer and believe that I will be

able to at some point. LXN is currently working on fixing it so we can

upload OUR meter readings to THEIR website.

It's still there - and this is Sunday afternoon. Click over on the left at

Category Search. Select " Glucose Meters " . Click the SEARCH button. The " In

Charge " is down near page bottom, at $9.95. Next, you can again click on

Category Search, and this time select " Testing Strips " . They have a six-pack

of the fructosamine strips, or a Value Pack that includes 50 glucose strips

and four fructosamine strips (the Value Pack is $32.95). Shipping is $3.95.

Susie,

After you are eligible for insurance, you might try to get your doctor to

write you a prescription. I got a prescription for the GlucoProtein strips,

and Nylcare covered them. I didn't think they would since they covered Accu

Chek.

It's an old clunker my sister gave me when she upgraded. It was hard to get

enough blood to satisfy it ( " Igor the Monitor " I call it), and hurt a lot. I

in fact didn't even bring it with me to Arizona, because I was determined to

get a newer, better one. Since arriving here, I have felt off-balance ...

still getting acquainted with the new area, new schedules, etc. I don't want

to have any HbA1c's or other bloodwork right now, for fear it will postpone

my insurance coverage 12 months, and I want something to use to keep track

of my condition. So I thought I would try the fructosamine meter and see if

that is adequate.

I never did test often ... I mean, I know which foods spike me and which

don't. So for me, good control is a matter of *self* control; testing after

I knowingly eat the wrong things just confirms it. Since I don't take any

meds, there is nothing to do when I'm elevated anyway, other than exercise.

And I can tell when I'm elevated, because my adrenalin kicks in ... the

signs are unmistakable. Rob and I have both been eating somewhat too many

carbs lately, and we have vowed to bear down on our diet in the future.

Meanwhile, I plan to pick up some glucophage in Mexico (if available) and

see if I can get my HbA1c down below 5.5.

You're welcome. That site frequently has different meters for next to

nothing.

Teri,

Does the meter come with any strips at all? My FastTake came with 25. I

ordered the 6 strip package.

Well, with the 6 extra I ordered then I should be good for 10 months! :)

I just want to check the glucoprotein once a month to see how I'm

maintaining overall.

Did you mean 10 weeks? The meter comes with two different glucoprotein test

solutions. They expect you to use two strips from each bottle to test the

meter. I don't do it. I test one strip per bottle, and just alternate which

solution I test with.

I read that it's supposed to give a picture of our levels over the previous

2-3 weeks. But, typical of the profit hounds, they suggest that we use the

fructosamine meter weekly.

The glucoprotein test is meant to be done once a week.

From Naomi:

I'm having problems with my computer. I think it has diabetes too. (Isn't

that about the same as Type 2???) Haha. Anyway.....I was having a problem

getting things to work since my hard drive crashed so I got a telephone

number and ordered my charge meter directly. The phone number is

1-. Today is Tuesday and they said it would be shipped Thursday

so I will more than likely have it by next Monday at the latest.

From Naomi:

Hi Vicki,

I have never had to buy the control solutions. I just call AccuChek and

they send me some new bottles. I guess that's the best they can do since

the price of the strips is so high.

I dunno, Dave...I routinely test each bottle and two times (not consecutive)

in two years the number has been higher than than the testing range. I use

a

Lifescan Surestep meter and I called them and both times they replaced the

bottle plus gave me an extra one. Very good service. So...the moral of

this story is...I think it pays to test with test solution Vicki
