Geez, Vicky, even my vet insisted on an endoscopy for my cat when he

suspected irritable bowel syndrome. He and the specialist vet said

IBS covers a host of variations, and the medication would be

different depending on what they found. Time for a new doc?

p.s. My cat is on prednisone (yes, I know, a steroid), not on

laxatives or anything else you mentioned for IBS. Long term steroid

use is not great, but it did fix his symptoms, and he is going to be

monitored thru blood tests. If this were not a multi-cat household,

the vet said he would have changed the cat's diet because often food

sensitivities/allergies compound the problem. That might have

avoided the need for the prednisone.

What is the IBS? What is/are the symptoms? I have as of late had a dull ache

or feeling in my right side where I bend at the waist....in that area? I am

sure my nerves are " shot " . I have found that Verapamil allows me to only

slightly " feel " the jumping in my chest. This makes this more tolerable for

me. I am having that scope thing done this week. Ugh. Barbara

Does IBS come with atrial fibs or is it a result of all the trauma that goes

with this?

IBS refers to " irritable bowel syndrome " ; There are a variety of symptoms,

most of them involving flatulence, diarehhea, etc; I recommend either asking

your family physician, or doing a search on the internet using a major

search engine;

The link between IBS and atrial fibrillation is controversial; Those who

believe that AF is caused by a hyperactive vagal nerve say that there

clearly is a link, since the vagal nerve is involved in intestinal

contractions and the digestive process as well as the heart itself;

Stress can make IBS worse, but if you regularly go into AF episodes after

eating, at rest, or during periods of indigestion, you might have vagally

induced AF;

I recommend reading the " vagal a-fib portal " which should be in the database

somewhere here; I read it last week; I apologize for not having the specific

web site at hand;

Hi Barbara:

I was originally scheduled for a Colonoscopy at the time I was diagnosed

with Afib and because of this diagnosis, it was put on the back burner. My

mother and her two brothers had colon cancer so this is a test that I have

been getting through the years.

I hadn't given it too much thought, but I too have a slight pain (ache) in

the right hand side. Interesting that it may also be associated with Afib.

Anyway, a consult and Colonoscopy is scheduled for November 21st.........and

I'll ask. Let me know what you find out. Strange, but the association with

AFib would be good news to me given the other alternative.

God bless,

Ellen

- Did you ever think about becoming a doctor? It sounds like you know

more about AF than any caridologist I ever talked to (no joke). Keep up the

good work. Bob Reiley

Thank you!!

You made my day!!

I am a freelance writer/researcher who writes on a number of topics, atrial

fibrillation being one of them due to my personal struggle with it; I

certainly am not always right, but I do enjoy being as knowledgeable as

possible;

Some doctors appreciate my knowledge, others are put off by it, wanting

their patients to respect the pecking order of the doctor/patient

relationship.

Forums such as this provide a valuable tool in gaining further knowledge,

wisdom , and insight into AF.

Again, thank you.
