Guest guest
We did a Miralax clean out a couple weeks ago. 3 adult does: 1st adult dose w/ 8 oz water - wait 8 hours - 2nd adult dose w/ 8 oz water - wait 8 hours - 3rd adult dose w/ 8 oz water. Subsequent days you can use whatever Miralax dose is effective. For our 2 1/2 year old, 1/2 cap once daily is appropriate. We have seen no apparent adverse effects from Miralax. We're off of Miralax right now and using lactulose. We have some concerns about my son's health and want to make sure that Miralax isn't the source of those concerns. We've been off of Miralax for 1 month. We intend to give my son at least 3 months off of Miralax to see if there is any change in the problems we're trying to isolate. We absolutely hate lactulose. MIRALAX IS SO MUCH BETTER. My wife wants my son to go back on Miralax ASAP. Dr prescribed 15 ml of Lactulose. We were too agressive in cutting the dose when he f1st prescribed it, thus the need for a cleanout.. Right now we're at 10 ml and it is still too much for our little guy. We've been at 10 ml for about a week. Tomorrow we start at 8 ml and we'll see if we can keep him clear without the massive blowouts. My 5 year old had a belly x-ray a few weeks ago, and it appears she is all backed up. We have been having issues with belly pain for many months, and the doctor feels if we " Clean " her out, her belly will feel better.Of course....she prescribed Miralax for the clean out, but said I could also use MOM. Does anyone have a better idea, or is Miralax my best bet. The doc said to use 3 cap fulls, and to make sure it is water by the end of the day....and to keep up the Miralax for a week, to keep the stool soft.Any input on how to go about the clean out would be great...Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi, just be prepared for a mess...we have done this, and I would hope there are better ways, I just don't know them. We personally don't use miralax anymore, think the product is junk, and feel our son has damage from it.(JUST MY OPINION)Thanks.Quoting 3mphoto : Hi everyone,Just a question from a few who have been there. Guest guest
Thank you....I know I'm in for a mess. My daughter was on Miralax years ago, and we didn't see any adverse side effects. This is only temporary, just for a clean out, and a little maintenance. Guest guest
3mphoto -I didn't see your original post but my two cents is this:try xylitol or magnesium rather than miralax. Our experience is that if you start on the Miralax road, it will be hard to get off of it. You can buy xylitol at the grocery store, co-op or anywhere they sell baking stuff (it's a sugar). For magnesium, we use Natural Calm. Good luck! Tracie Hi, just be prepared for a mess...we have done this, and I would hope there are better ways, I just don't know them. Guest guest
CAn I ask why only use drugs for a cleanout??? What about enema?? My son has a digestive disorder and recently stopping pooping for 8 weeks we have to keep him cleaned out to prevent a serious infection that he is VERY prone to getting since he has this disorder (Hirschsprung's Disease). We had to so something called an irrigation (because enema's did nothing)to get him cleaned out...it is NOT fun, but certainly does the job. I am just wondering if this is an option for you- instead of the drugs. good luck, > > Hi everyone, > > Just a question from a few who have been there. Guest guest
Tracie, do you know what the recommended dosages are for xylitol for a 33 month old (four this week)? We've been doing calm but not consistently since she always seems to figure out when I've added it to something and won't drink it then I did just find out that using a dropper is " fun " and got her dosage in that way but she's on 8 days and I can feel the poop lumps in her tummy and she's thrown up her food twice this week because there's nowhere for it to go. We refuse to use Miralax.. Thanks Z Miami, FL > > Hi, just be prepared for a mess...we have done this, and I would hope > there are better ways, I just don't know them. Guest guest
I had the same question. Back when we were using Miralax for my son, the GI told me to give him 2x the adult dose for 3 days in a row (he was 4 at the time). After the first clean out, he lost the ability to formulate his thoughts(couldn't think for long enough to get his words out). He walked around in a daze for about a week. It was almost like he had a stroke, which is what we thought happened. He had an MRI, which came out normal. It wasn't until the second Miralax cleanout, when the same thing happened, that I put 2 and 2 together and figured out that it was the Miralax that was causing the stroke-like reaction. That's the last time he ever took Miralax. That was almost 2 yrs. ago. I remember at that time that the GI said we could either use Miralax or give a pediatric enema once each day for the 3 days. She said the enemas were much more traumatic, so I believed her, because he had never had one at that time. I don't know about your child, but I've given an enema to my son every so often, and it isn't traumatic for him at all. Way better for him than Miralax. I would check w/ your dr. and see if that's a possibility. Hope this helps! > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > Just a question from a few who have been there. Guest guest
Thank you Jack, and everyone for your responses and opinions. It really helps. I just want to get ride of these constant stomaches once and for all.......and hope it was only a back up of stool..... Guest guest
And even if it is distressing for him, the enema has to be considered the lesser of two evils - at least it doesn't affect his brain. > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > Just a question from a few who have been there.
