Hello,

I am new to group. I have ds who is 6, dx of Asperger's and some sensory

processing issues, as to be expected. He takes 3/4 cap - a cap a day and has

been for a while. He has had constipation, since birth, and to this day, will

not initiate a BM on his own. Even though BM's are soft and pudding like, he

will only go during regular toilet seatings that we have set up for him

throughout the day. The rest of time he tries to withhold, I think, or he

simply can't get to bathroom quick enough, so he soils or stains underwear.

What is the low-down on Miralax? I was just informed via a friend that it can

be toxic for ASD and SPD kids....HELP Please!!!!

Here's a product we found very helpful................expensive but worth it. If you have any yeast overgrowth issues, lactulose seems to make worse as it's a milk sugar and feeds yeast. Probiotics work well too. Kirkman labs makes a good one so does Metagenics. The urinary retention is commonly reported with Miralax but urologists say no? I've been studying these children for a decade, and it sure seems to be the case. Many have renal failure and many children have died.

I am 43 years old and started suffering severe nausea and vomiting at Christmas last year. After several tests they found my GI tract is full of polyps but feel there is no gastric outlet obstruction.So....the conclusion was I suffer from the above as the result of a breathing problem and taking narcotic pain meds which result in constipation. The magical offered solution was Miralax.I tried half a dose for a week every second day. And then did half a dose every day for a week. By then I had urinary retention, gas, nausea and severe pain - along with 8 to 12 bowel movements a day. I went to the doctor in tears and he said to cut back to every second day which I tried for 2 weeks and have since quit. I am currently attempting Lactulose with some results, some discomfort but nothing like the hell of miralax. The doctor is still trying to push me to give it another try.I notice on this forum a lot of the adverse happenings

occur with children but I have picked up some ideas like almond milk. I thank you for taking the time to put this information together.Best of luck to everyone.RD

Thank you Jeannie. I am very prone to yeast so will look into this product. It

is frustrating too - I just stepped on my scale and saw I have gained 7 pounds

after 10 days on it. There is hope - I just wish they could find something

other than this to treat constipation.
