Guest guest
I am 45 yr old male. For the last 18 months I have been getting much pain and aches and fatigue. So far no one has found anything wrong ACCEPT that as I kept presenting with severe arm and chest pain, they thought heart attack. tests proved it wasn't but that i do have angina(silent-ie no pain) so i guess that is a good thing as it is being trweated and I have lsot 70lbs since. Howevrr, I am still in pain. I have so far had x rays which show nothing wrong with my spine. Waiting for MRI. I get the strangest pain across my shoulders, down arms, and across chest. hard to describe-almost like burning tho sometimes like electricity or lightening. I also get very stiff all over. I can't keep still. When driving for any lenght, I have trouble getting out the car. i ahve a lot of lower back probs too. The apin has been worse today-wet and cool weather. worse in winter it seems. I am also tired all the time. Not quite true. i often feel fine and then suddenly feel like I can't move a step cos I feel so weary. I wake up tired and sore. i often wake with pain. Often in my stomach. I pee a lot and my stomach gets upset fairty easily tho much of that has been sorted by change in what i eat. I was given pain killers, Ibuprofen first ahten soemthing else and now Codiene Phosphate. I don't take them tho. No pain killers have touched the pain. Soemtimes i feel okay but mostly not. I ache more or less constnatly. The severe pain comes and goes and sometimes I can go a week with none tho still ache and feel fatigue. I sleep okay but most days also sleep a cpouple of hours in the afternoon. I find my fatigue comes on suddenly arounf late morning or early afternoon. I walk twice a day for 45 kins aith my dogs. I keep active. I haven't let this stop me living. I happene dto meet someone Tuesday and whilst we were talking I had an attack of the bad pain. She asked what was wrong and I said 'I don't know I get this pain but don't know why'. Anyway she told me about Fibromyalgia. So I am wondering if my symptoms fit and whether I shoul tell my dr about this possibilty? I have been tested for everything else(except MRI) and have no ohter conditons that could account for my ill health. I might add that all the other symptoms were around for quite some time for the severe burning/electric pain started and all have got worse since that pain started. I don't expect a dignosis from this list. Just thougths as to whether I seem to be barking up the right tree to look at FM being the cause? Tahnk you. Guest guest
While my internist and nurse practitioner in Virginia suspected FMS, I had to go see a Rheumatologist at the U. of Va. Hospital for a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. Over the years, I've had a lot of strange pain. But what was consistant was what I told them. My pain was upper body. I had a lot of pain when I did something with my hands. A few times I had severe chest pain as well. I even went to the ER, but nothing cardiac was discovered. One internist in Ohio said my rib cage cartilage was inflammed. My chiropractor at the time said I had trigger points, and he had to massage them. That sure hurt! I've experienced changes in the muscles in my rib cage, and because of FMS, I have restrictive airway disease. Mostly when a Rheumatologist does a multitude of testing, it is to rule out other conditions that mimic FMS. I had the trigger points, non-restorative sleep, feeling every day when I awoke that I was 300 years old, or dead, horrible fatigue, and pain, stiffness. My brother has FMS too. Driving kills me. Going to Wal-Mart kills me. I can stand maybe going to Wallyworld twice a month. The pain you describe is typical of FMS. I can't take narcotic pain meds due to allergy. I take homeopathic remedies, such as Arnica Montana 30c. When my pain becomes intolerable, or has " spread, " I see a physical therapist who specializes in myofascial trigger point massage. I'm not able to do much walking. For fitness, I take therapeutic horseback riding, and I study Dressage. I hope you can find some relief. Welcome to the group. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. It sure sounds like you fit right in here with us. Most of us (if not all of us) have lived with years of unexplained pain, visits to drs, and being told that there wasn't anything wrong with us. It is so frustrating... to know you hurt and not to have a reason. You'll find that a lot of us were somewhat relieved to find out that we had fibro - because at least we finally had a reason for having so much pain. For patients with fibro, most test results come back normal - which can lead to you being told it is all in your head. Actually the only test for fibro is the examination for the tender points that are found. Mention it to your doctor and see what they say. Some doctors will refer you to a specialist and others will treat it themselves - and some doctors don't believe in fibromyalgia, so you end up looking for one that does. Check out the files and links sections of the group as they will provide you with a lot of information about fibro. a > I am 45 yr old male. > > For the last 18 months I have been getting much pain and aches and > fatigue.
