Guest guest
" I find the same is true at work, and it is those that give the longest reports and brag the most about their accomplishments that are promoted and thought to be the best (even when they're not) " Wow, Digna... that just clicked with me. I am the only RD in a 180 bed nursing home and I work 32 hrs/week. At 9:30am we have the daily morning meeting with all the department heads; while I am no the head of foodservice I am still required to go. At any rate, everyone gives their 'report' about what they are doing that day, which to me is a total waste of time - of course I'm going to see the new admits or attend care planning or do quarterly reviews or what not, so when it gets to me I just say " charting " and move on to the next person. I don't see the point in listing all the people I have to see, etc. Yet my boss gets snippy with me when {and believe me, it's rare} I ask to work a little bit extra because I can't get my work done. Several of the other departments { I feel} slack off yet they are her buddies. Hmmm.. I think I'm going to start talking more at that meeting... TGIF! Have a good weekend. I've been communicating in the EML Forum for the CD-HCF list and stating my views which are parallel to yours. Instead of whining about others - whether MDs, " nutritionists " , health-food pharmacies or gym trainers take our business, we should - hell, we MUST - advertise ourselves to the public. If we don't we'll be going where the dinosaurs went and in not too long a time either. I find the same is true at work, and it is those that give the longest reports and brag the most about their accomplishments that are promoted and thought to be the best (even when they're not). Digna Re: RD Blog Roll Why is this group so crazy scared of advertising? ??? How are people going to know who you are, where you are, and how to find you? It's not written in the stars in the sky!!! Guest guest
, Absolutely start listing the number of residents you will see, but also add how many are high risk, and summarize a bit of what you accomplished yesterday. Did you talk w a doc about the case? did you call a family? give a diet instruction? meet with charge nurse and explain treatment? Now I need to give myself advice too. Guest guest
Dear & List, Call it shameless self promotion, which I'm not ashamed to do by the way, (see my blog address below)and I just couldn't resist posting when I saw you say.... " everyone gives their 'report' about what they are doing that day, which to me is a total waste of time " May I suggest.......once a week, tell a short story....not a dry, boring report. Break the mold and tell everyone what your resident or family member actually said to you about the service there or what you did to help them, positive or not so good. Managers can and do become disconnected from the voices of who they work for. Everyone will be listening to you, what have you got to lose? Marilyn E. Guest guest
Sorry to be misinterpreted. I was being facetious. A response to the controls that ADA puts on us.
