Heloese, (sp) in the paper, has been telling the wonders of Vinegar for

years.

It is really good, but does it actually disinfect? It sure cuts urine very

well. I hated it when a cleaning girl used bleach, and didn't rinse. I like

lysol. It disinfects, and doesn't leave the strong amonia of unrinsed bleach.

half and half. First, you have to soak off as much as you can with paper towels

or old rugs. Then you spray the solution and let it work for a few minutes;

and then you soak that out too. You may have to repeat it if the wetting was

not fresh, but vinegar cleans beautifully and naturally, and takes away any

smell.

I clean exclusively with vinegar or baking soda, either in solutions or

alone. I keep a vinegar/water spray bottle (1:4) in every room - with 4

dogs and a cat and all these parrots, there is always something to clean up

and disinfect. It is also an essential (white, not ACV) part of my laundry

arsenal. If I have several stained articles of clothing, I put 1/4c vinegar

with 2T of baking soda in my washer with the detergent and water, let it

agitate for a minute, then turn it off to soak for an hour or so before

completing the cycle. No more presprays.

For carpets, I sprinkle a little baking soda onto the carpet, then spray it

with the vinegar/water solution. After a while I use my hand-held carpet

extractor on the spot. I'm told this is the same thing as the more exensive

oxy-cleaners, which I used to use; I just know it works as well. However,

as always, color test first.
