wonderful column on depression

Here's a wonderful column by a New Orleans newspaper writer about his

experiences with depression post-Katrina.

While the source of his depression has absolutely nothing to do with

chronic pain, he writes so eloquently about the disease and its

symptoms that it really spoke to me and my own situation.

So many of us suffer stress-induced depression because of our pain,

and often those close to us don't understand it. Heck, often we

don't understand it ourselves and even fight getting help. I know I

did, but finally asking for anti-depressants saved my life, not to

mention probably my job and my marriage.

Perhaps this article will help those of us who deal with it

understand it a little better, and not feel so very much alone. And

it's something we could even share with those close to us, to let

them know what it really feels like.

Wow, I live in South Mississippi just 45 miles north of New Orleans and know

exactly how he feels. Well, I wasn't quite as debilitated. My rheumatologist

told me last week that they have seen lots more Fibromyalgia since Katrina due

to the stress and underlying factors. I think it probably sent me over the

edge, slowly, as well. No one can ever understand until you've lived it.

Great article for all to read.
