She was trying to convince you not to look into it or make an ADA request. It's her job to represent the company, not you, and as a result she must discourage you from thinking about ADA, and delay and deny any ADA accommodation requests you make. She wasn't concerned about you and your condition - she was only thinking about protecting the company from a possible ADA request and suit. It's not her job to decide whether or not you're ready for ADA. Only you and your doctor (and lawyer) can make that determination. Keep in mind that any employee of the company is NOT on your side, in any way, shape or form, although the company may want to make it look that way. I've had this experience slap me in the face, and our HR people were quite open in saying it out loud. I also wouldn't assume that just because your company has a legal department that they are doing everything legally. I work for a major state institution with a huge legal department - you'd think a state government would be very concerned about doing things legally - and they did everything possible WRONG in my ADA accommodation request. If I chose to sue (which I haven't decided to do for other reasons than acquiring the accommodations they denied), they would go down in flames and there's nothing their lawyers could do to protect them. They just screwed up, and they did it intentionally, gambling that I would not sue based on the hold they have over me and my job.
