Guest guest
I am taking the allergy route on the 28th. My practitioner can't figure out why. So I am seeing an allergist, immunologist, and internal medicine doctor. I hope this isn't another one of those visits. Will let you all know when I am done. Guest guest
Hi all: Sorry for the long silence, but my life is CRAZY right now! I have a few replies: Heidi: Quick Question: What dosage of acidophilus do you take when you are on antibiotics? Do you take it when you are not on the antibiotics, and if so, what dosage for maintenance? Do you ever insert a capsule vaginally, or douche with a solution of the capsule contents? I've been taking it for about 2-3 weeks, and just wanted feedback - anyone else is encouraged to reply as well! Also, is anyone on this list lactose intolerant like me ? (I take " acidophilus with carrot juice " capsules, and I've been reading about a possible connection between lactose intolerance and insufficient lactobacillus, which should ease intolerance when taken... Susie: Sorry for the belated post on Xylocaine - I have tried the 2% gel, the 5% ointment and the 4% liquid. The gel was not strong enough, after a while. The ointment base burned. However, the liquid was absolutely wonderful (plenty strong, with no burning reaction). My pharmicist had to order it, in that it's supposedly not used by many, so they had none in stock. I applied it with a cotton ball (some use a dropper - but messy), and I loved the ease of application (dab, dab), as well as the fact that I could put it exactly where I wanted it to go, with no rubbing, etc. The cream and gel seemed to spread further than I wanted, and was globby. You might try it! Ann: I too was taking Nizoral 200, 2/day for a week and then 1/day indefinitely. It did help, but now I am changing to Sporonax, as it seems that I have developed a yeast resistant to Nizoral. Funny thing, vaginal Mycelex works, but there is only so much goop one can insert before one grows weary! Wish me luck, and I hope you have continued success! Stacey To whom it may concern: Has anyone taken the allergy route to healing? My OB suggested I get a full battery of tests to see if my vv has anything to do with allergies. On the Nizoral, I have gotten about 70% better, but that last 30% is persistent. Any thoughts? I don't use soap down there, but I have used maxipads, especially after each pregnancy, which is when my vv started. Thanks for listening! Guest guest
Lona: Speaking of immunology, I have begun taking several immune-building supplements. I take more pills... However, my doc says that it takes about 2 months for immune building supplements such as these to work. So 2 months it is (expensive though). Might as well try it - after all, I do have yeast, and my body's inability to fight it well has to do with immunity. I have noticed that I used to be tired all the time, but as I have gotten better re vv, my energy level has also returned. Doc says this means my body is finally fighting back adequately. I got a list of immune system boosters from http://hometown.aol.com/MCFighter/immune2.htm and my doc OK'd each and every one of them. Just thought I'd let you know that you might be pursuing a worthy path! Another interesting site that discusses immunity briefly on a homeopathic slant is http://www.popeshill.demon.co.uk/ I don't know if you have yeast, but a really funny site re yeast is http://www.msu.edu/user/eisthen/yeast/ -great laughs. Keep me posted, especially as to the allergy thing! Stacey
Guest guest
Dear Stacey, My husband and I have been discussing the allergy possibility, and we think that VV and vulvodynia are possible shoot-offs of a weak immune system because everything that has led up to my case (of which I am in remission at this time, possibly cured!) all has to do with that, including the fact that I had very bad allergies as a child. It is certainly an avenue to explore. Patty
Guest guest
To Lona and all: I also took the allergy route.......and NOTHING showed! They even tested for yeast and fungus allergies....still NOTHING. So...don't be surprised if this happens. I mean I know for a fact that for example....any powder burns down there...and that strawberries might give me a flare up...but neither showed any allergy. Just another doctor that I felt like a jerk with....oh don't get me wrong...the doctor was nice....I was just desperate to find a cause to this. I'm still in search of the reason.....and very tired from it. Take care. Florence
Guest guest
Florence, I saw a new doctor in Manhattan today.....she had an idea. So she wrote me a prescription for a cortisone topical to help the inflammation. I will call you tomorrow and talk. Eileen Bayshore, N.Y. Guest guest
That is the first thing my doctor did when I went to him in July of 1996. The next thing he did was to prescribe Elvail. I have heard that the cortisone weakens the skin if used too long. But it did help with the pain. Ora > From: Eihafner@... > > Florence, > > I saw a new doctor in Manhattan today.....she had an idea.
