Utilization of Acute Care Therapy Services

I am interested in benchmarks/industry trends with utilization of PT services in

critical care units. We are working on a triage policy as well as our staffing

patterns. We are an acute care hospital and provide services 6 days per week

to all patients and 7 days per week to orthopedic patients/new neuro referrals.

Our volumes can fluctuate from 52 to 80+ treatments overnight. Our goal is to

appropriately promote our services and be mindful of the DRG reimbursement

issues with patients who are already consuming extensive resources in the

critical care areas.

My second question is 7 day per week staffing for speech therapy services. We

are evaluating moving to a 6 day per week staffing pattern. Any info on

staffing patterns for acute based programs would be appreciated.
