Carey,

My oldest son was born with TSC, but wasn't diagnosed with it until he was

19. So all these years we have been going through what we thought was another

birth defect, when in fact these problems were all rooted to his TSC. As far as

being hereditary, I wouldn't think so.

yes it is possible

Is tethering hereditary?

Hi everyone,

This is probably a question that has been asked before so I apologize

for repeating it. Could I have passed on this condition to my son?

He's eight years old and has a lot of mild backaches and

occasionally, he finds controlling his bowels difficult. This is

beginning to cause him embarrasment. There's no weakness or tingling

in his legs.

I could be jumping the gun a bit here but my instincts tell me

something is not quite right. It's been niggling me for a while but I

don't want to put him through a barrage of tests if there could be

another explanation. Does anybody have other family members with tsc?

or has anyone read any evidence to support a hereditary link?

Thanks

Carey

There are too many ways for a person to become Tethered for it all to be

chaulked up to Hereditary. I know for Spina Bifida, it looks like it is a

Multifactoral thing..........so, even though everybody with Tethered Cord

doesn't have Spina Bifida, it will probably end up being the same way,

Multifactoral. So yes, it is possible, but it won't be the same for

everybody.

To my knowledge, there is nobody else in my Family with a Neural Tube

Defect, and/or Tethered Cord.

Me :)
