Guest guest
I am new to the group and have just read through all of the files and many of the posts (VERY informative and helpful), in hopes of finding someone else who has encountered or heard of my son's issue: He is 5 years old and has ALWAYS had a very distended belly. However, he has never had any issues pooping, so we didn't understand why. We are vegans (no animal products) so he eats a great deal of fiber, fruit, veggies and even green smoothies daily and he drinks primarily water- but sometimes almond milk or carrot juice. He consistently poops 1-2x a day. However, many months ago, he began complaining of stomach aches and 2 different X-rays (weeks apart) showed that not only was he constipated, but his ENTIRE intestinal area was filled?! Both Ped. Gastro specialists (I saw a 2nd one for a 2nd opinion) said that it is clearly long term functional constipation. They actually used the term " impacted " and one said it was one of the worst cases she had seen in a very, very long time (insert sad face and huge tear-drop here). He has been potty trained for years, does not have any hangups about pooping and has regular and normal bowel movements, which is what makes this so confusing. Of course, both docs want him on Miralax and both recommended cleaning out his intestines COMPLETELY, and starting with a " clean slate " , to see how his intestines manage after that. I agree 100% with this philosophy... but am NOT comfortable giving him Miralax. The 2nd doctor actually suggested admitting him into the hospital for 24-48 hours, with a tube down his nose, delivering concentrated amounts of it via Golytley (or Nulytley) into his system, to evacuate his system completely. ((( Soooooo- Instead... we have just started trying the magnesium citrate, prune juice, aloe vera juice and some homeopathic pellets from Borion, in hopes that it will help significantly. Questions that I am hoping someone can answer: 1. Have any of you ever heard of a child who is incredibly constipated but still has regular bowel movements? If so- please share any info you may have. 2. I understand that there are many " natural " products that " soften " stools or increase bowel movements but does anyone have any suggestions for a natural product that completely evacuates the intestines, so we can start from scratch? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, marie
