Guest guest
marie I will write more later about the enzymes we are using, I am trying to get things done this morning. But we are using Kirkman Enzymaid Multi-enzyme complex. However, they have 2 other ones that cover more foods than this one. So far we have had good success with this one. I have to go get the kids ready for school but I promise to give you more info later today. Go to kirkman's website to look at their enzymes. Kirkman is gluten, casein, and egg free. It is a good and reliable brand with several others. I hope this helps you for now. The enzymes have made a big difference for my kids and myself! We all have dairy and gluten issues. Guest guest
I don't know if this helps, but my ds had a distended belly for YEARS no matter what we did. I just had to trust that things were working. I'd say to give it more time...it takes a while to get things healed and two weeks is not a lot of time. I know you want your baby fixed now, but keep doing the right thing and it will get better. If he has trapped gas, I'd suggest the homeopathic remedy Nux Vomica. It comes in little pillules that he can chew and they taste like candies. We use them around here and they work great! I get them at our Natural Foods Co-op, or you can get them online. There are a couple of mfg'ers, but we prefer Borion. Tracie PS. We also use enzymes: Klaire Labs Vital-Enzymes - Chewables. You can only get them through a licensed practitioner, but we've found them to be the best for us (we've tried Kirkman's). marieI will write more later about the enzymes we are using, I am trying to get things done this morning. Guest guest
marie, when I take a probiotic out of the blue.........my tummy swells, why don't you discontinue for a while as you CAN get too much probiotics which can cause what you're seeing. The only way to rid it, is to take antibiotics. By no means am I saying it wasn't there before the probiotics as I'm one of the first to say that the gas is trapped. But, probiotics can make the tummy bloated and after a year, I think you're good! That's a long time for a child? Just a thought? Guest guest
We get Klaire Labs Vital-Enzymes Chewable online... we were introduced to it by our IBS naturopath, but you can order it anywhere. I think I last ordered it via Amazon... My daughter's stomach was lightly distended before we went off gluten - she has Celiac's. What is suddenly really helping with appetite and interest in food is Intestinal Repair Capsules by Biogenesis Nutraceuticals. I think it's her intestine that needs the repair, now. Guest guest
He has always had a bloated belly, since birth. That is normal for little ones but eventually, they should outgrow it in the toddler years. When he didn't, out naturopath suggested probiotics. However, the GI doc did tell us to stop taking them because they would cause bloating, as you mentioned. So I did stop them a almost a month ago as I wanted to see if I could get the bloating down with diet. Guest guest
If you have been to a physician, do they say what may be causing the distended belly? Have they done x-rays or CAT scans or MRIs or whatever to discover the cause? If not, that's where I would start. To: miralax Sent: Wed, May 18, 2011 1:24:52 AMSubject: Enzymes Okay- so after almost 2 weeks of a cleansing diet, with magnesium citrate, castor oil and aloe vera juice... Guest guest
We did have xrays done by the Ped GI doc. (2 different docs). Both said he was very "constipated" and one said it was one of the worst cases she'd seen in a long time. We were confused as he has always had consistent bowel movements at least 1x a day? Both docs wanted to put him on miralax to completely "clean him out". Hence the cleansing diet we started, in lieu of miralax. Guest guest
He LOVES mango but I have been trying to be careful about not "combining" melons with citrus fruit or carbs or protein, etc... During these past couple of weeks, based on the Food Combining principal that says that different types of foods digest at different rates, in the stomach. (Any of you familiar with this? You can google it. It makes good sense to me). So I guess I have been trying to give his body all the help that I can. Eating mango would void this concept. Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions. (Heavy sigh). But I could try the pill form of enzymes. Couldn't hurt. Might help. Guest guest
Here's what I know: it's a plant of some kind and the plant, itself is toxic. However, the remedy is "watered down" so it's beneficial for humans. It works on gas, either before or after eating. Since that's not a lot of knowledge (our naturopath always prescribes it, so I just go with what he says and don't question a whole lot from him), I looked it up. Here's what I found:http://abchomeopathy.com/r.php/Nux-vAlso, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strychnos_nux-vomicaHope this helps! Guest guest
Wow, Sara! Thanks! Our naturopath said we can only get them through her...it's the same price either way, but good to know it's out there. The Intestinal Repair Capsules also sound interesting. For accidental gluten exposure, we use GlutenFlam. They sound like they'd do the same thing. We get Klaire Labs Vital-Enzymes Chewable online...we were introduced to it by our IBS naturopath, but you can order it anywhere. I think I last ordered it via Amazon...My daughter's stomach was lightly distended before we went off gluten - she has Celiac's.What is suddenly really helping with appetite and interest in food is Intestinal Repair Capsules by Biogenesis Nutraceuticals. I think it's her intestine that needs the repair, now.Good luck!> > marie> I will write more later about the enzymes we are using, I am trying to > get things done this morning. Guest guest
According to a Homeopathic book I read at Whole Foods, as well as the Boiron display area there, in the store, two products were recommended specifically for gas/bloating: Nux Vomica (for gas and bloating) and Carbo Vegetabalis ( for distention) (http://www.elixirs.com/carbo.cfm)As I searched further, I found that Hylands Homeopathic for "Upset Stomach" had BOTH of these ingredients in it. My son does complain of a tummy ache, sometimes, when he is waking up in the morning. So although I wouldn't consider it an upset stomach, I thought it was interesting that this product had BOTH ingredients (and was only $4.99!) Worth a try.http://www.hylands.com/products/upsetstomach.phpI also bought some chewable payaya enzymes. I am not sure which I will try first...marie Here's what I know: it's a plant of some kind and the plant, itself is toxic. However, the remedy is "watered down" so it's beneficial for humans. Guest guest
Typically, a piece of fruit first thing in the morning on an "empty" stomach is considered very good and helpful for digestion. Also, recently a friend of mine who suffers from constipation gave me about 8oz of juiced beet and carrots. Let me preface this by saying that I am very luck where digestion is concerned...never really had any issues. And my system is VERY sensitive so most things affect me almost immediately. Without being graphic here, let me just say the juice made me even more regular. I wonder if anyone here has tried beet juice with their children. It's got a semi-sweet taste. I did try to give my DD a sip of it and although she liked the first taste, she wasn't interested in finishing the little bit I gave her.Anyway...food for thought :)To: miralax Sent: Wed, May 18, 2011 2:25:29 PMSubject: Re: Enzymes He LOVES mango but I have been trying to be careful about not "combining" melons with citrus fruit or carbs or protein, etc... Guest guest
enzymes should help with the constipation as they help the stomach digest the food. helping with the gas is a nice side-effect of the digestion. any time undigested food sits for too long in the gut, it continues to release (methane?) gas. the faster food is digested and excreted, the less gas one should suffer from. To: miralax Sent: Wed, May 18, 2011 10:05:24 PMSubject: Re: Enzymes so enzymes are only to help with gas problems, is that it or does it help with constipation at all? Guest guest
Hi. where did you find the chewable papaya enzymes? To: miralax Sent: Thu, May 19, 2011 12:21:27 AMSubject: Re: Enzymes According to a Homeopathic book I read at Whole Foods, as well as the Boiron display area there, in the store, two products were recommended specifically for gas/bloating: Nux Vomica (for gas and bloating) and Carbo Vegetabalis ( for distention) (http://www.elixirs.com/carbo.cfm)As I searched further, I found that Hylands Homeopathic for "Upset Stomach" had BOTH of these ingredients in it. Guest guest
Hi ~ sorry did not get a chance to get on yesterday. First, yes if our homeopath finds out anything, I will let the group know. As for the conference it is "GI" in Philadelphia, that is all I know. As for the enzymes, it is helping my children absorb the food they are eating because all 3 of my children have mal absorption issues. I am seeing less whole food particles in their stool. Everyone is going at least once a day. My oldest son who was on Peg 3350 for 7 years is finally going everyday. I am actually going to decrease the milk of magnesium because it's now too much. He is also taking Nystatin to attack the Candida so this could be making him go too. Today starts his full dose for 6 weeks and then he will be taking Olive leaf extract for 6 weeks to complete the attack on candida. It took 20 days to get to the full dose. It's a very long and slow process but my son is doing well. And in school he was at the bottom and now he is at the top. His brain fog is gone and he is sooooo happy. He is even trying out for travel soccer next week! For the past 2 years ago my son could not play well and this year, he is the best on his team! Everyone is in amazement! He is a different kid! I have gotten my children back that I once knew. My younger son who was on Peg 3350 for 6 years is going to the bathroom daily on his own. I don't have to give him milk of magnesium. The change in diet and lots of fruit and vegetables and the enzymes have made the difference for him. He does not have candida. I believe Miralax affected him and gave him his problems! He was a normal and healthy child! Both boys bellies have gone done! They don't complain of stomach aches as often too. We do have complains of waking up in the morning with stomach aches and feeling nauseas. Still haven't figured that out. And we don't have complains of urine stinging or hurting as much. But still have cloudy urine especially my middle son. So it looks like the enzyme is helping my children digest and absorb their food properly and to go to the bathroom. If the kids eat something with gluten or dairy the enzyme is helping them with that too. They don't have stomach aches and still have a BM. But they don't eat gluten and dairy hardly at all, maybe at party so they can still be kids once a while:)! But overall they are adjusting well to our life change. Oh Jeanie~ we can't avoid all the high oxalate foods because they are already on a strict diet so they need to grow too. So I am being careful what I give them and don't put too many on the same day. I just plan around all this. And I don't want them to eat too much red meat. I give them a lot of fruit and vegetables with a different protein everyday. As for the milk of magnesium question~ I give them the cherry flavor. They have their water bottle ready and they drink it with water right after it. My 4 year old daughter, we have to chase her down but we finally get her to take it. She too has candida so she is having die off right now. She got candida from all the antibiotics and prevacid she was taking for a long time. She never took miralax but she had a very extended belly. It is finally going down now. We have been giving her the milk of magnesium so she could have to the point of diaharia so I do not have to do an enema. And she has been having a BM 1, 2 , and sometimes 3 times a day. I think we have gotten a lot out so far! I think I have answered all the questions I read for me. I hope this info helps. Guest guest
Whole Foods. The manager there said it was, by far, the best selling one they have and has been for years. Will post the name of it if you remind me as I am out right now. They taste delicious and we do not even like the taste of papayas. However- we will see how they work. I will call the company to see how long they should take to work.
