However, the amount of bacteria in yogurt is only suppose to maintain some good bacteria. If you were constipated it wouldn't make much of a difference because of the low amounts. The amounts in a chewable or pill form has CFU's, kind of like PPM (parts per million) in which some are in the millions, and billions. Also, most yogurts have lactobacillus acidopholus, which is the strain most are familliar with but according to what I've read, Lactobacillus Rhamous is the one that's suppose to be good for constipation. Below is a few examples of probiotics that have worked for a few of us on here. I like the chewable, as it's easy for a child to take and it tastes sweet.

Kirkman chewable. This has worked well for us. They also make a pill form but I try to avoid hiding things in foods and drinks as it can cause a trust issue and will forever affect the child.

LeeAnn likes this one, VSL #3, I've never tried but it has the CFU's in the Billions and she says it's the best on the market.

Is Activia yogurt considered a probiotic? The package says a natural probiotic culture bifidus regularis. Is this the same as these pills you all are buying? Because Activia is a food which actually tastes good, in my opinion, my son will eat it and it isn't expensive. Just wondering... thanks.

i would like to share

i would like to share the following. for years, just years, my son with autism has had consitpation. he is four and a half, and has had it since he was one. his diet is very very limited, and for years i have struggled with what to get him. we ordered, from kirkman labs, pro-bio gold capsules. my son poops every day. gets on the potty, and poops. never, ever in my wildest dreams did i think anything would cure his problem. i want to thank every one of you for your tips, ideas and patience. i can not believe i found something that works, and it was with your help. thank you so very much. rebecca cooke
