Guest guest
Hi Lena, I've been taking Manuka honey for almost a month at the same recommended dose as your husband, and at the same interval before meals. I didn't read anything anywhere that suggested beginning with a smaller dose, so I began with one teaspoon before each meal. I've had no reactions at all, either positive or negative, except that my taste buds like it. I did read one article that recommended using it for at least two months, so I ordered some more--cockeyed optimist? It is supposedly antibacterial, so it seems possible it could cause herxing. He seems to have a very strong immune system, but a tight Schatzki ring(been stretched twice already) and acid reflux have forced him to take Previcid (which he takes as needed, rather than daily, knowing that it really isn't a good answer) I just got him some Manuka honey to see if that might be a good alternative. He's been taking 1 tsp. 1/2 hr. before meals for a few days and yesterday was hit with major diarrhea. With no other variable in our routine and nothing in our food that triggered anything in me, I'm wondering if Manuka is doing this and if it's some kind of herx. He followed to dosage guide on the jar, but perhaps should have crept up more slowly? Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Peggy,Those were my thoughts (killing bacteria), especially if he had some h. Pylori which can be responsible for heartburns and GERD. We'll see how he did today.I wish Manuka wasn't so expensive. Guest guest
Hi Lena, I did my research all over again before I ordered the second batch, and got a brand half the price of the first one I ordered. It had great customer reviews at both iHerb and Amazon, so I figured if I'm gonna keep trying, I might as well try something that's worked for others instead of the more expensive stuff I originally bought. It was either that or quit, so I opted for the "cheap" stuff--like $35 for 16 ounces instead of $35 for 8 ounces.
