Guest guest
have you tried something simple like prune juice? My son was constipated even as an infant and we would dilute his bottles with a tiny amount of prune juice- he never seemed to notice it. And this worked really well for him. Subject: 15 Month Old is extremely constipated. To: miralax Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2010, 10:23 PM So for the last month my daughter has been extremely constipated. She will stand and push and push and turn dark red and all she will be able to pass is a small hard stool. At first I thought she jut had a normal bout of constipation so I gave her a suppository. That cleaned her out and she was fine for a few days but then went right back to full constipation. Her diet is really good. She is has a ton of soluble and insoluble fiber, flax oil, fish oil, probiotic, etc. My doc finally said try miralax. This is how she said to use it. Give her one 17 gram dose a day until she has almost diarrhea three or four times a day. Then we are supposed to cut back slowly so that she has peanut butter consistency stool. Once she gets there we should be able to taper her off completely. Now she has been on it for a week now and all she has is one explosive stool a day. The type that leaks out her diaper, etc. I am wondering if this a bad bandwagon to get on. I keep reading about people being on it for years and I don't really want that for her. I will say we used to give her raw milk daily and she went to the bathroom with no issue. We only stopped that right before the constipation began because the doctor made us afraid of listeria. We now have an appointment with Dr. Dan on Jan 3rd. but I really wanted to get some opinions and feedback before then. I rather her not be on miralax for another month. Guest guest
"...the doctor made us afraid of listeria."I would be more afraid of the effects of Miralax. It sounds like you're doing everything right...however, adding prune juice like le said, epsom salt baths, adding in magnesium (Natural Calm for Kids) would all help get her over this. have you tried something simple like prune juice? Guest guest
Thanks for the quick responses. I will say as for prune juice, I was putting it in every bottle, my wife was stewing prnes as well and feeding them to her and it had no affect. For Natural Calm would I want to use the regular adult natural calm or the kids versions and how much should I use? > > > Subject: 15 Month Old is extremely constipated. > To: miralax > Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2010, 10:23 PM > > > So for the last month my daughter has been extremely constipated. Guest guest
I do keep a food diary. I worried about the proportions but I think I have it about right. I appreciate the responses so far. I think I want to go back to raw milk. I hate the idea of her becoming physically addicted to miralx especially as a baby. Thanks also for the natural calm info > > > > From: Barry Fein <barryfein@> > > Subject: 15 Month Old is extremely constipated. > > To: miralax > > Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2010, 10:23 PM > > > > > > So for the last month my daughter has been extremely constipated.
