I bought mine at whole foods and had my daughter drink it as a warm tea. If you need to increase parastalsis for ONLY a few days. SENNA works great to create parastalsis but since Senna is used to contract the gi muscle so it will cause pain.

Magnesium Citrate and Phosphate Soda (Phosphate Soda was pulled from the market about 10 years ago)

Excellent point about the tube. Another reason why we shouldn't even consider this procedure as an alternative. His situation just seemed so "grave" after talking with both docs and I left both appointments feeling so worried for him. But then... the more I read/researched, the more hopeful I become that there are alternatives that can help him. What on earth did GI docs DO for kids lie ours, before PEG was invented???

marie, There are alternatives that GI Docs use. Magnesium Citrate is a safer product. Beware...........it only takes one human error to insert the GI tube into the lungs vs. the stomach. There are many reports of this in the files section I posted. PEG is a liquid plastic and if aspirated into the lungs will have bigger problems than you can imagine. Please see files section

To: miralax Sent: Sat, May 7, 2011 2:02:36 AMSubject: SOOO confused. Pooping 1-2x a day but docs say my son is "impacted"?!

I am new to the group and have just read through all of the files and many of the posts (VERY informative and helpful), in hopes of finding someone else who has encountered or heard of my son's issue:He is 5 years old and has ALWAYS had a very distended belly. However, he has never had any issues pooping, so we didn't understand why. We are vegans (no animal products) so he eats a great deal of fiber, fruit, veggies and even green smoothies daily and he drinks primarily water- but sometimes almond milk or carrot juice. He consistently poops 1-2x a day. However, many months ago, he began complaining of stomach aches and 2 different X-rays (weeks apart) showed that not only was he constipated, but his ENTIRE intestinal area was filled?! Both Ped. Gastro specialists (I saw a 2nd one for a 2nd opinion) said that it is clearly long term functional constipation. They actually used the term "impacted" and one said it was one of the worst

cases she had seen in a very, very long time (insert sad face and huge tear-drop here). He has been potty trained for years, does not have any hangups about pooping and has regular and normal bowel movements, which is what makes this so confusing. Of course, both docs want him on Miralax and both recommended cleaning out his intestines COMPLETELY, and starting with a "clean slate", to see how his intestines manage after that. I agree 100% with this philosophy... but am NOT comfortable giving him Miralax. The 2nd doctor actually suggested admitting him into the hospital for 24-48 hours, with a tube down his nose, delivering concentrated amounts of it via Golytley (or Nulytley) into his system, to evacuate his system completely. :((((Soooooo- Instead... we have just started trying the magnesium citrate, prune juice, aloe vera juice and some homeopathic pellets from Borion, in hopes that it will help significantly.Questions

that I am hoping someone can answer:1. Have any of you ever heard of a child who is incredibly constipated but still has regular bowel movements? If so- please share any info you may have.2. I understand that there are many "natural" products that "soften" stools or increase bowel movements but does anyone have any suggestions for a natural product that completely evacuates the intestines, so we can start from scratch?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, marie

Thank you Holly!

Hospital: What did they end up using in the hospital to completely clean her

system, and did it help? Did you say she had to have 3 full clean-outs, via the

hospital? Lordy- I was hoping he would need it only once, if it ever came down

to that but I was going to ask about the citrate vs the PEG that they use. And

honestly, I am praying that I can loosen any impaction at home vs having him be

admitted into a hospital.

Organic: I am very particular about organic so most of what he ingests is

non-GMO and organic. It's not 100% because we do go out to eat occasionally and

the fruits/veggies there are not organic- but I do try to order those that would

have the least amount of pesticide residue.

Allergies: He tested negative for celiac. He's never eaten meat/dairy as we're

vegans but we haven't tested for soy, corn, etc... and I personally think his

body ins't very tolerant of some wheat products so I do limit specific ones

completely.

Juice: I have never given my son any fruit " juices " as I am a firm believer that

we should ideally be eating all of the fiber, that goes along with the whole

fruit, for our bodies (huge history of diabetes in our families, so I am

cautious about any/all concentrated forms of sugar).

However, I DO understand that he will probably need pure fruit juices the help

this issue right now so I have been making fresh pineapple and watermelon juice.

Also made him some fresh lemonade today with just lemons, water and agave.

I appreciate the info on the plumsmart and prune juice. That is good to know.

However, someone posted a really interesting " paste " that they make with figs,

prunes, etc... which I was going to make. Would that be okay to give on a daily

basis, since it has prunes in it??

Yes- please share the name of the book, if you found it helpful.

Greetings mamarieI truly understand about the diabetes. Everyone above me gfenetically has died from it. But I think there is a difference in how we eat rather than just looking at sugar as sugar. They did not clean her out in the hospitalizations the mainly hydrated her since her electrolyetes were critically low. But the good news is when someone is getting many bollises of saline IVs with all the elctrolytes in them the bladder naturally needs to empty and then the bowels drained too. It was not recommended that they do the standard wash outs because if the missed and it went down the lungs instead of the stomace there would be other serious problems.

My daughter has allergic reactions, (bleeding) when we used enimas, and PEG is not a good chioice since her body since kids with Austism absorb to much of it.

Anyway we can get natural products to do the job we do. The IV s of saline seemed to be the best help while in the hospital and at home I simply I am using RAW MEAL from garden of Life mixed with varrious berries. Since she has never had sugar of any kind the organic fruit is being accepted at least for now. Like you, I am just doing the best I can reading, reading and more reading to understand.

Mag citrate is a very strong laxative. Too strong for every day use as it may cause electrolye loss. Magnesium is what the body naturally uses to make itself go poo

I would only use it once a week until you find a way to get a regular poop pattern.

I don't know the name brand of the one I'm referring to, it's in a green bottle at Osco so I can't seem to find it online. I checked the one you're using and I don't see PEG, so I think you're fine

Is it only the CALM brand? We have been using the cherry flavor Walgreens brand of Magnesium Citrate (just small amounts, not a 'clean-out' dose), and it doesn't list PEG on the active or inactive ingredients list. > > Â > >> >> >Magnesium Citrate and Phosphate Soda (Phosphate Soda was pulled from the market > >about 10 years ago) > >> >> >> >> >>

I went back to this trail in order to get background info about marie's son.

Here's my thoughts:

1) Was the 6 week vaccine DTaP? The pertussis vaccine is KNOWN to cause GI

issues. It's what damaged my son. Damage is not always immediately visible.

2) Have they mentioned Megacolon? Hoping to rule that one out.

3) Was his passage of meconium normal? Any mention of possilble

hirschsprung's?

4) You might have better luck with a Naturopathic Doc. Your diet sounds good,

but I'm wondering if there's some food sensitivities that haven't been

uncovered. Does he have dairy in his diet?

Hope this helps get the ball rolling.

> > Hi marie! I am curious what you mean by consistant bm's. It sounds like

he has full colon and possibly being forced out by little bits regularly but not

full movements Im guessing. The distended belly is a classic sign of impaction.

I noticed mag citrate has been mentioned. My sons sensories was so high it was

impossible with the liquid forms. We had better success with capsules that have

powder form. We would mix it in with his puree's/pedia sure etc. Then he would

consume. Beings no dairies for you, you could maybe try it in his smoothies. Use

small amounts so he wont taste it. Not sure if he would eat, but garlic also

moves the stools. You mentioned aloe, make sure it is as close to pure as

possible. Another thing we learned was to only try one thing at a time. This way

you know what works. Vitamin C also well loosen stools. My son unable to chew

and using pureeds with C I would cut into little tiny pieces and add with a few

swallows of food. Please avoid the Miralax. We discovered it only causes more

issues with the nerves cells in there and also discovered the hard way that peg

can directly affect the heart. Golytely etc is the same thing, please avoid

those also. My sons severe issues started at 5yrs. It was very quick after his

school vacs. We went back in time and discovered that with each round of

vaccines he would show more signs of constipation among other medical issues

that was triggered. I dont know if you vaccinate or not, but this proved to be

the situation with our son. Vaccines target the intestines. Intestines is the

backbone of our immune system etc. Another thing that we found that would help

with movements was olive leaf extract. We originally used to kill bad bacteria

and virus's which if those are in the body/intestines well slow the tract down

or even stop it in some cases. We even had a surgeon admit this to us.

Virus's/bad bacteria well slow or stop the peristalsis. Some well use the olive

oil. One of the rare oils that is actually good and healing for us. I pray for

your childs healing. Jennie<><

You son may not be fully evacuating when he poops and that is why it does not matter how many times he deficates per day if he is still holding poop back. Sounds IBS, my daughter was the same way until we totllay changed how she eats and what she eats.

I understand that there are many "natural" products that "soften" stools or increase bowel movements but does anyone have any suggestions for a natural product that completely evacuates the intestines, so we can start from scratch?> > > > > > Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. > > > > > > Thank you, marie> > >> > Hi marie! I am curious what you mean by consistant bm's. It sounds like he has full colon and possibly being forced out by little bits regularly but not full movements Im guessing. The distended belly is a classic sign of impaction. I noticed mag citrate has been mentioned. My sons sensories was so high it was impossible with the liquid forms. We had better success with capsules that have powder form. We would mix it in with his puree's/pedia sure etc. Then he would

consume. Beings no dairies for you, you could maybe try it in his smoothies. Use small amounts so he wont taste it. Not sure if he would eat, but garlic also moves the stools. You mentioned aloe, make sure it is as close to pure as possible. Another thing we learned was to only try one thing at a time. This way you know what works. Vitamin C also well loosen stools. My son unable to chew and using pureeds with C I would cut into little tiny pieces and add with a few swallows of food. Please avoid the Miralax. We discovered it only causes more issues with the nerves cells in there and also discovered the hard way that peg can directly affect the heart. Golytely etc is the same thing, please avoid those also. My sons severe issues started at 5yrs. It was very quick after his school vacs. We went back in time and discovered that with each round of vaccines he would show more signs of constipation among other medical issues that was triggered. I dont know

if you vaccinate or not, but this proved to be the situation with our son. Vaccines target the intestines. Intestines is the backbone of our immune system etc. Another thing that we found that would help with movements was olive leaf extract. We originally used to kill bad bacteria and virus's which if those are in the body/intestines well slow the tract down or even stop it in some cases. We even had a surgeon admit this to us. Virus's/bad bacteria well slow or stop the peristalsis. Some well use the olive oil. One of the rare oils that is actually good and healing for us. I pray for your childs healing.
