Guest guest
I haven't seen Pearl Harbor, so I can't comment on the guy. However, I have seen both Mummy movies, and Weisz plays a character that is a nerd. She's accident prone, dedicated to order, inquisitive, often ignorant of real danger, and has other geek/nerd/Aspie traits. I'm not saying that she is like this, only that her prior performance may have been responsible for her casting. Obviously, it would be somewhat difficult to pair her up with n Fraiser again, although his role as Eliot s was very on-key for an adult Aspie struggling with normalcy and having *no clue* what to do. Given that Harold Ramos also wrote Ghostbusters, which has not one but two perseverant nerd characters, there may be some Aspieness to him as well. (Then again, you can pretty much interchange Jew and Aspie for stereotypical nerds - smart, glasses, clumsy, allergies, etc. I'm not saying that *either* is true, just that both *have* been cinematic stereotypes). Hell yeah n Fraiser is a hunk, but that doesn't mean he can't play an autistic person with more depth to his character than Rainman. Re: Jerry's movie set to go? > This sounds ominous. Guest guest
I would cast a run-of-the-mill person able to emulate many aspie behavioural traits. I'd also have them live in a working class or lower middle class neighbourhood, experience employment problems and financial hardships. Of 22 in the Edinburgh and Lothians Asperger Society I think around 5-6 have some form of employment. Of around 50 in the Strathclyde Aspie Group only 8 work. Most live on benefit and/or with their parents. I simply don't trust Hollywood any more. They're too closely entwined with the military-industrial complex to offer meaningful insights. Guest guest
Keanu Reeves and Helena Bonham . I'm pretty sure Keanu Reeves is autistic. Helena Bonham has proven her ability to play characters with physical disabilities (Theory of Flight), emotional disabilities (Fight Club) and gripped by complete mental breakdown (Hamlet). Of course, they did play brother and sister in Hamlet, so the caster may be somewhat reluctant to cast them as husband and wife. Anyway, still beautiful, but more likely to communicate the reality of autism. ----- Original Message ----- > > Who would you have them cast, then? Guest guest
How about Rene Russo? She was *very* convinving in " Buddy " . " " Buddy " (1997). Often charming, fact-based story of a wealthy, animal-loving eccentric (Rene Russo) whose 1920s New York menagerie includes a sickly infant male gorilla she tenderly raises as a human child until his massive size and natural jungle instincts become a danger to the household. " Quoting Kaiden Fox : > I haven't seen Pearl Harbor, so I can't comment on the guy. > > However, I have seen both Mummy movies, and Weisz plays a character > that is a nerd. Guest guest
Hi, I agree, I don't trust Hollywood one bit. I'll feel sorry for Jerry if they slaughter his reputation and that of all AS/autistics. I can just see it, " You don't have Asperger's you're not a hunk (beauty). I learned that people with AS are gorgeous and sexy from " Mozart and the Whale " . I do hope it goes well, and wouldn't it be great if they would expose CAN's nefarious ways in the middle of it???? Guest guest
Well, considering that in the novel " Oryx and Crake " , an Aspie *destroys human civilization,* it's a matter of perspective. Now, if I can just convince people that I *am* a hunk, because I have Asperger's... well, I guess in my case it wouldn't be hard to do. Guest guest
You know what? I think you are right. Aspie/autie = hunk/beauty I'm just going to ignore what my mirror says. :-) Camille > Well, considering that in the novel " Oryx and Crake " , an Aspie *destroys > human civilization,* it's a matter of perspective. > > Now, if I can just convince people that I *am* a hunk, because I have > Asperger's... well, I guess in my case it wouldn't be hard to do. > > Re: Jerry's movie set to go? > > > > Hi, > > > > I agree, I don't trust Hollywood one bit. Guest guest
Sounds cool with me!! And it would be really informative than fiction in this day of " reality TV " , etc. Besides, what society needs is an education about just how really difficult it really is for us while being entertaining at the same time. It must be something that would be standard viewing in businesses, etc. (think a documentary " Peege " here which is " required viewing " in the nursing care/healthcare fields.) Re: Reality TV: I would do something like " Big Brother " , " The Real World " (if younger) & I'd do it the same way with AS like Pedro Zamora lived & died with AIDS on the show. I wouldn't mind " Extreme Makeover " or " Simple Life " -as one of the locals who can educaate others. Haven't seen " Apprentice " yet. Sounds too insulting & humiliating being fired on national TV. I would consider " The Bachelorette " -if they spring up with an older version. " Jane Millionaire " ought to be a must-why not?? Anything where YOU are in control of the situation yourself. http://community.webtv.net/tikigalharkins/LETSTALKASPERGERS
Guest guest
I once found a " social story " about a woman who *didn't* ignore what her mirror said. She wound up exiling her step-daughter into the woods, where she met seven people of short stature. She wasn't happy enough with the exile, though, so she tried to poison her with an apple. Yeah... I never trust mirrors. Besides, I know I'm a hunk. Not sure what I'm a hunk *of*, but I know I'm a hunk. Re: Jerry's movie set to go? > You know what? > > I think you are right. Guest guest
Note to self: Ignore mirror if it starts talking to I.
