Now, come on. Is that typically what they do when someone misses a training day in the National Guard?

Not just a day, but an entire weekend! <g> Okay, I have no way of knowing what they do when that happens in the National Guard, but a month is a month, and the law is the law. The ordinary Joe would have been in heap big Trouble! Clay

The ordinary Joe would have > been in heap big Trouble! But for an active-duty military person, a month missed means " 30 days of active duty missed, " right? So for a Guardsman, it could take over a year to miss 30 days of duty. And, not only that, I am sure we both know that Bush did it because he could. If he was an ordinary guy, I bet he would have been there right on time. His that he exploited an opportunity that was handed to him, not because of anything he did personally, but because he was lucky enough to be of a privileged family. People in the ruling caste like that don't even have a mindset of having to play by the rules. They make rules for us... sometimes pretty nasty rules, like the USA PATRIOT act, but they don't have to live under them. You know that Bush or Ashcroft will never suffer under the PATRIOT act. No, I had a roommate that missed a few of them. I do remember one message on the answering machine, though: " Private <last name>, this is your Sargent, Sargent <whatever>. I don't know where you are right now, but I suggest you show up within the next 10 minutes or face court marshal. " This was after missing several of these trainings, over several months. But what is significant is that this person had no political connections, was not rich, was not powerful, etc. He was an ordinary person. One missed training gets your superiors mad at you but doesn't get you court Marshalled or significantly harmed. I believe he had to do some extra duty cleaning floors or something. --

Since my husband is in the National Guard and has missed the occasional weekend, I can say that they do not get too worked up about it. They either call or e-mail him to find out why he was absent, unless he has called and e-mailed them first. Take care, Gail :-)
