,

I had something similar when I was taking Effexor (an antidepressant). I looked

it up online and people called them " brain shivers " . I had terrible headaches

trying to get off of it - I had to open up the capsules and decrease it by 1 or

2 pellets a day. I've never had them since.

Maybe you should ask your doctor @ it.

I hope you are doing OK.

Ok, weird question.....

Hi everyone!

The group has been so busy lately; I've been trying to keep up but have fallen

behind. I hope everyone is doing well and the pain is staying low.

I have a weird question that I think is related to the narcotic meds but am not

sure and am wondering if anyone knows or has experienced it...when the meds are

totally out of my system like when I wake in the am or sometimes even when it's

a little past my normal dosing time, I get this odd feeling in my head..it feels

like " brain zaps " ; I know that sounds weird but that's the best description I

can come up with. In my forehead area there is this heavy " zap " that lasts maybe

3 seconds; this will come and go frequently, it seems until about a 1/2 hour to

an hour after I take my meds. The only other time I have felt that is when I was

trying to get off an antideppresant; I'd get that exact same feeling but it came

frequently and after my Dr told me to just take my med the feeling went away

within an hour. Ok now that you all think I'm crazy, has anyone felt anything

like that????

Thanks & everyone take care,

Hi Alanna,

Thanks for the info! Wow I'm sorry you had to go through that! I am glad someone

else has heard of the " brain shivers " I thought I was loosing my mind! This

doesn't happen everytime but often and I'm not trying to get off the meds, it

just happens when I'm " due " for a dose. That really scares me for when it's time

to get off the meds! Hope you are doing well!

Hugs,

I know God will not give me anything I

can't handle. I just wish He didn't

         trust me so much.

I had " Brain Zaps " with L-tryptophan a very, very long time ago.  Those things

feel super weird.  I let that happen twice only.  Never got near it after that.

It feels like something going " ziiiiiiiiiippppppppppppp " across my brain.  You

sort of just stop and think.... " whoa...what was that? "

This was before the internet but now that it's been brought up I looked it up

and sure enuff...others got it to with the L-tryptophan.

Wow I never put 2 and 2 together but ever since I have been on Lyrica my sugar

cravings have gone sky high and I have gained weight.  I learn so much through

this group.  I really gained weight after I started my heart medication, now I

am on over 13 medications eat 1/2 as much as I used to and weigh a lot more.  I

just really wish I could exercise and work like I used to, I have a lot of

friends who now think I am avoiding them because I don't feel well enough to do

things with them.  But I always think it could be worse, there is always someone

out there who has it much worse than I do.  Thanks for always being there

everyone in this group I apreciate you all!!!!

Ah, yes, sugar..yum, if only I could control myself from buying it in the first

place and keep it out of the house. I'm on Lyrica too, which is famous for

weight gain & swelling. I don't use that as an excuse because I know what causes

weight gain, what to do about it, ect.. but the Lyrica does not help at all and

I've heard many people say it caused intense sugar cravings. When we're

healthier I believe the weight is easier to keep off.

Take care,

Prayers for less pain & more sleep!

Honey nut cheerios do sound good, I think I could just put them in a baggie and

munch on them.  I have been going crazy with my sweet cravings!  I put about a

1/2 cup

of French Vanilla icecream in a bowl and spoon a little hot fudge topping and

drip some

caramel topping over that and mix it up and just LOVE it!  I do that a couple

three times a day.

Then I made up some instant chocolate pudding with canned condensed milk,

mmmmmmmmm!

I got out the bag of Nestle's semi sweet chocolate morsels for making cookies

and munched on a few

of those.  I even opened a hot chocolate packets and just poured it in my

mouth.  I do take my time

so I don't upset my tummy but I just know those calories are adding up.  I am

5'8 " and not yet 150 lbs.

Just got this urge for chocolate and sweets, always have reallly, but I think I

read that either Chantix or

Prednisone increased your appetite.  Mine appetite went straight to sugar!

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast, yummy!  I am almost out of

icecream and topping so gotta waddle into the

store today and get some more...lol....

Even when I smoked I loved my sweets!  I gotta slow down just a little, gotta

get a little project going

that I can do while laying down.

Now I am hungry! lol, hmmmm, peanut butter and jelly sounds good and somewhat

healthy?

hugs, Coleen  :-)

I'm a sugarholic too, I found that honey nut cheerios are sweet and not bad on

calories.  Or these peanutbutter rice cake 100 calorie packs, they are sooooo

good.

Ahhhh....heavens! !...weight loss.  I gotta go that route.  I've been on such a

sugar kick lately and put too much on.  I am a night time muncher.  What I need

to do is get rid of the spice drops and ginger snaps for cereal to much...dry

cereal.  It can help slow that " sugar " crap.  I just brought out the scale.  My

doctor looked sideways at me last visit.  Up 10 pounds.

Told him.. " my fault " ...that and the spice drops.  And the evil sugar monster

that temps and lies and MAKES me eat sugar.  (I've owned enuff responsibility)

Hi Coleen,

Prednisone does increase appetite, so that may be why you are experiencing that.

Oh, your ice cream description had me drooling on my keyboard!! I LOVE ice

cream! Now I'm bummed out that I can't have any today; still getting over the

flu :(

Have a cup or so for me! :)

I don't have any exuses.  My sweet craving it out of control....my doc looked at

my weight on the chart, then at me....and I said.... " I have no exuses!!! " ...I

even have great exercise equiptment but nothing can keep up with the caleries in

those spice drops and ginger snaps.  I'm already getting out the cereal.

*sigh*....I hate it when my sugar gets out of control.  Cereal munching does

help.  I've been here before.

Are you getting over your stomach flu? I'm sorry you were so miserable. Thank

God it only lasts a couple of days.

I have actually bee feeling pretty chipper the last couple of days. I still

have the back pain, but hardly any aches or pains. I know it won't last, but

I'm really enjoying it.

Take care and feel better soon.

Hi Colleen,

OMG! You are making me soooooo hungry. Prednisone definately increases your

appetite - I was on it years ago for allergies and I gained 40 #'s. The other

piece of the puzzle is food tastes better after you quit smoking. I have had a

sensitivity in one of my teeth and I can't stand anything sweet OR cold. I'm

really ing for some ice cream, but it just hurts too bad.

Sounds like you're thin enough to not worry @ it. Lucky you!

I have to grt some cavities filled but I am deathly afraid of the dentist.  I

will take a 6 " needle in my spine over getting a cavity filled in any day.

Subject: Re: Ok, weird question.....

hi Alanna,

hahaha....sorry 'bout that :)  Since I have been on antibiotics for all my

abcesses in my mouth

my teeth haven't been hurting so bad, I can chew a little on the left side, very

little.   The right lower

back molar was a root canal and now it is broke down all the way to the gum and

jagged, my poor

tongue has been through alot!   I couldn't eat the icecream and sweets until the

antibiotics kicked in

and boy now I can't stop!  I am brushing my teeth several times a day too.  A

week from thursday

they are supposed to pull out 3 teeth (I know I keep repeating this...lol.. .)

and that is just a start on

my way to dentures.

I just don't know if I can handle all this online research of the medical stuff

I need to know before

I go to see back/leg pain specialists.  Heck, I have to sit on my sciatic nerve

just to research.... lol...boohoo. .

Yes I have heard that food tastes better after you quit smoking.  I only smoked

for a few years.

I do miss it sometimes.  I have always loved chocolate but yes the Prednisone

must have really

kicked in my appetite for icecream and chocolate pudding, fudge topping, whipped

cream on top, OMG make me stop!! LOL!  :-0

yes, thank goodness I carry my weight somewhat well, I am tall enough to wear it

decently.

You made me laugh! I needed that!  My last Prednisone is tomorrow, lets hope the

rash doesn't come

back from the Chantix.  My lungs and heart needed a break from smoking anyways,

but now I am

sort of binging on sweets!  I think I will wait a couple of weeks before I do my

fasting because next

week is too busy for me.  Bandon this Friday, next tuesday is Walmart, Coos Bay,

then following Thursday is 3 teeth pulled!! eyeyeyeye,  I don't believe it will

be that bad though.  I have had dentist

go in my mouth and break/crack my teeth before, just give me plenty of novacaine

(sp?).  Gosh, they

better not give me a prescription with some weak butt vicodin for the pain

afterwards when I am used

to taking stronger meds than that.   They will understand that won't they??

Please tell me they will and

not give me any hassles..... I am tired of all these medicine hassles.

What I would do if I were you Alanna  is to get something sweet and just try to

eat it on the side of

your mouth that doesn't bother you so much.   You know what?  I have been doing

it that way for

many, many years.  Never had good teeth, always had cavaties seems like..

Get some Amoxicillin, gosh, I am on  my 3rd bottle of 3 a day, I wonder how long

they are going to

keep me on it?  Funny thing,  I got a cold sore on the left side of the corner

of my mouth that won't go

away now, figure that one out??  lol

gentle hugs and take care,

Coleen

I had to go thru all of that once.  My son was in the army at the time and he

helped me a lot.  There is a clinic called HAWK and they cut the cost in

half.

I had to have em all out and then dentures.  I don't usually wear them at

home.  I can eat almost anything without them.  Big steaks...you name it.  I

have to cut corn off the cob with a knife...but for the most part do very well

and eat very well.  My oldest son is also like me.  Hates to wear em but can

eat the house down without dentures or real teeth.

I wear them outside where I smile....that's about it.

I really started feeling better when the teeth were all out.  I had chronic

infections...and bad teeth can sure make your body feel awful.

Colleen,

I've been going to dentists since I was 3, so they don't bother me.

I've been using some Sensodyne toothpaste after I eat and it's getting a little

better.

Good luck with all your dental work.

-- I'm so sorry about your tooth trouble. I just wanted to say taht I know how

you must feel. I inherited bad teeth and wound up getting upper dentures when I

had a tooth fall out in the front. I have about 5 teeth left on the bottom and

one is loose. They had to knock me out to pull the top teeth. I figure that

when it comes time for lower dentures, I am only having the teeth that are left

pulled. the rest have broke apart to nothing over the years. I was one of

those people that went to the dentist faithfully, even though I am terrified of

the drill. I was so upset when this one dentist told me that he had never seen

such a bad case of perideontial problem. He made me feel that it was my fault.

I do not regert my decison to get dentures. It has saved me alot of pain. I

hope that things work out for you and you feel better soon. Huzs, Tami (**)

Lesley,

When I was on Ambien, I would wake up and find empty cookie packages in the

garbage. I would get up during the night and eat the whole thing with no

recollection!

I was a size 8 until @ 9 months after I got sick. I've put on 30 pounds and it

won't come off no matter what. It's so frustrating because most of it is around

my middle.

I eat a 10th of what I used to and exercise as much as I can.

It's so hard on my self esteem after being slim all my life. Just another cross

to bear, I guess.

Take care,

Colleen,

The antibiotics kill bacteria and cold sores are caused by a virus. Stress

definately makes them worse. I don't get them, but I get a crack in the corner

of my mouth when I'm stressed. Nothing helps but to reduce my stress levels.

Good luck with everything.

Glad you're on the mend. I have to babysit one of my son's claasmates this

morning and they are stuck inside because of the rainy weather. I'd so much

rather they be outside. Plus the rain has raised my pain level a lot.Good luck

with your birthday party.

I used to entertain a lot, but now I can never get he house clean all at once.

My husband will give me 2 days notice that he wants to have people over and

wonders why I freak out. Maybe if he would lift a finger to help me once in

awhile - could do it. Fifteen years of marriage and he's never once cleaned a

bathroom.

Sorry I'm so cranky, but I'm still upset @ my sister not wanting me to know she

has cancer. Now I can't even call her to see how she's doing because I'm not

supposed to know.

Families sure are weird, aren't they? Oh well.

Have a good day and stay dry.

Thanks Alanna,

We had a nice party and it didn't rain :) No problem about venting a little

today; I was married for 12 years so I know how it goes....anytime you need to

talk just email me.

Wow, I'm so sorry about your sister! I'm sure you must be very worried about

her. Do you think she didn't want you to know so you wouldn't worry? My Mom does

that to em once in awhile regarding my Dad's health. Her reasoning being that

since I have so many health/pain issues that I don't need the extra stress. I

say that I am a big girl and would like to know what's going on w my family!

Arrghhh, yes, families sometimes can be challenging. Take care & have a low pain

weekend!

Hugs,

I know God will not give me anything I

can't handle. I just wish He didn't

         trust me so much.

I had something similar when I was taking Effexor (an antidepressant) . I looked

it up online and people called them " brain shivers " . I had terrible headaches

trying to get off of it - I had to open up the capsules and decrease it by 1 or

Maybe you should ask your doctor @ it.

hi Alanna and all,

Gosh Alanna!   LOL.....you poor thing!  Not remembering

eating the cookies made me laugh but I needed a good laugh.

You are right Lotacats, all that cookie munching and not

remembering it!  At least when I make my bowl of icecream and

fudge topping or chocolate pudding and munch on it I remember

it and definitely am seeing it creeping up on my waist line :(   LOL

Hopefully I  will not continue this terrible sweet tooth craving since

I took my last Prednisone yesterday!

It is hard to take weight off when you are disabled.

Don't be too hard on yourself Alanna.  I am trying to control myself

also but it tastes soooooooo good.  My guy goes to bed around 2 or 3 in the am.

He does this also so I can get some good sleep in  our bed then when he comes

to

bed I have a worse time getting comfortable because also of the fact that he is

a big

boy.

SO, what do *I* DO?  After about a half an hour of cuddling, I go down to the

daybed

take a pain pill then get up and INDULGE AGAIN LOL !  And this is at about 3am

in the

morning!! LOL  I sit here reading my email and eating chocolate pudding!! LOL

Today we went to Bandon to get my pain meds and went to the store and I stocked

up

on icecream, topping, reeses fast breaks candy bars and instant chocolate

pudding.

THEN on the way home, oh no! I just had to stop at our little local market and

GET 2 SCOOPS

of icecream.  I usually have them make me one scoop out of 2 flavors but this

time I splurged!!

OMG!!  This will slow down soon I hope or I will ????? start smoking

again.....JUST KIDDING!!

no I won't,

hey, my guy is fixing to cook ling cod wrapped in foil with butter and garlic

cooked on the bbq

right now,  yummmmmmmmm.........

gentle hugs, Coleen

Hi Alanna,

You got it; a prayer is going up! Best of luck for your picnic tiday! Will your

husband help you get things ready & cook? That was one of my biggest issues w my

ex is that his fmaily would come over and he wouldn't lift a finger to help.

Actually he never helped clean, cook, ect. We were together for 16 years and I

can count on 1 hand how many times he did the dishes. Then what kind of ticked

me off was w/in months after our seperation he learned that he like to cook!

That would have been nice when we were together! Sorry, I guess I needed to let

out a little steam!

Hope you have a low pain day!

trying to get off an antideppresant; I'd get that exact same feeling but it came

frequently and after my Dr told me to just take my med the feeling went away

within an hour. Ok now that you all think I'm crazy, has anyone felt anything

like that????

Thanks & everyone take care,

Sounds like you did a great job!  Be sure to pat yourself on the back for it

and do toot your own horn.

Those that criticize...look at it from this angle and you won't feel so

powerless against it.

Nobody is ever content with their life.

If they cannot achieve certain things that they have always wanted then they

start complaining and criticizing others.

Their constant complaining is that they all achieve a great satisfaction while

doing so.

It fulfills their ego and it veers them away from their responsibilities.

It places them in a superior position than the others.

It’s easy to complain and criticize as it solves all their problems, in a

quick and easy way like a free lunch without having to work for it.

This only proves laziness, incompetent mind, and stupidity.

So people who are just worried about themselves and all they care about is the

fulfillment of their own egos, and that’s it. Because, it’s easy to

criticize on about anything…

The trouble is it's only a temporty fix and they do it over and over.

Some folks may try to fake it and go for the " Contructive Criticism "

word...but....you know when it's not.

If you are happy or successful the fear and jealousy builds up in the criticizer

and you get this type of criticism over and over.

Only when they learn to accept others the way they are without judgments of any

kind then the complaining will vanish by itself.

So...don't hold your breath but be aware of the why's.  As for the hubby who

runs around like he did the work....same...free lunch without paying for it.

Only you can strut your stuff.  In your heart you know who you are and what you

are capable of but it would be nice if the mental loosers in this world would

acknowledge it.

They won't...so again....don't hold your breath and waste your valuable energy

worrying about why are like this.  It's listed above.

We know you are tops in the picnic areas if that helps.  A lot of us have

been down this road.

For those that just don't understand your pain issues, it's easeir to call you a

fake or just be critical then in really digging in and learning what it must be

like and learn to share this part of your life.

They do feel powerless and hate it when they can't " fix " it.  So they

criticize.  Hang strong for yourself and those that do matter.

,

I had something similar when I was taking Effexor (an antidepressant) . I looked

it up online and people called them " brain shivers " . I had terrible headaches

trying to get off of it - I had to open up the capsules and decrease it by 1 or

2 pellets a day. I've never had them since.

Maybe you should ask your doctor @ it.

I hope you are doing OK.

Ok, weird question.... .

My oldest, is 12 and Noah will be 10 next month. They have very different

personalities, but are both awesome. They love to hang out with me, but

entertain themselves when my pain is high. I am so blessed to have them.

I pray all the time that either my husband will change or that I will find the

patience to not let him get to me. All in God's time.

I hope you can stay cool and have a low pain night.
