I just don't like dealing with *NT* nonverbal language, or more precisely, NT " social " nonverbal language. And I think there can be a big difference there, between autistic nonverbal language, NT nonverbal " social " language, and NT inadvertant nonverbal language. I do seem to send off and receive nonverbal signals, but I don't send off NT ones and I don't easily receive NT-social ones or some NT-inadvertent ones. I seem to be able to read a fair amount of autistics, and vice-versa, to varying degrees of accuracy, and I find it much more relaxing to deal with that than to have to deal with forming words or dealing with excessive word-input. I know autistics vary a lot on this, however. Certainly one of the first real friendships I ever formed was with someone who barely ever talked to me with words and vice-versa, and communication was much less stressful that way. After 39 years, it took someone else's prompting for me to realize that my dear old appendix has always accepted me for who I am, no matter what. (*looking down*) Ah, my dear old friend, I promise I'll never take you for granted again! C'mon---let's go have some grapefruit! :-) --DKM

It all sounds very interesting, but I've never had a chance to experience autitistic nonverbal language. Persumably I have some myself, but the only evidence is when NTs react weirdly to it. :-/ Jane
