Guest guest
Hi All: I realize that this may be a bit off topic and apologize in advance - but the subject is definitely food related. My focus as an RD is " Prevention & Wellness " therefore I share this story. My husband & I had a very frightening experience this weekend when one of our German Shepherds developed " GDV " or " bloat " . We had never heard of this and were very fortunate to have acted quickly and gotten him emergency medical treatment. It is a catastrophic condition that can rapidly become fatal. Therefore quick action is vital. More importantly I feel it can largely be prevented if you are aware of the etiology of the condition. It typically affects large breed dogs with " deep chests " but can even affect puppies. If you are a dog owner or know anyone who is please pass this info along. We appear to have been very lucky, and Freedom is so far recovering well. If I can prevent one dog from this experience it will be worth it. The following links explain the condition.
