Hi,

I set up a blog some time ago, but decided against putting anything in it.

Because they're public, and anyone can read/comment on them, there are

certain subjects I would not be confortable writing about. And if I have to

be careful of what I say, that rather defeats the purpose of keeping a

journal in the first place.

This message from Newstead arched across the cosmos:

Blogs and LiveJournals aren't the same... Blogs generally are fully public

unless you're manually adding in code to make them locked. LiveJournal

automatically includes the ability to only show entries to select " friends "

you've chosen, only let select friends comment on them, or a combination of

both.

That's why I have both a LiveJournal *and* a MovableTypeBlog active right

now. I put the public stuff that I don't mind everybody knowing into both

of them, and " sensitive " things only intended for various groups of friends

into the locked area of my LiveJournal. For instance, I don't usually

gripe about my family on the public blog, for fear they'd see it and hassle

me -- but I do put entries into LiveJournal on that topic, set so that the

system will only allow my friends, or only certain friends, can see it. No

real concern about privacy that way.
