of Dental Erosion

Brazil, " Waterhouse PJ, Auad SM, et al, Int J Paediatr Dent, 2008 April

Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom).

Summary: In a cross-sectional study involving 458 schoolchildren (mean

age = 13.8 years), results indicate that frequency of consumption of

sugared carbonated drinks is significantly positively associated with

risk of dental erosion. Diet information was gathered using a

questionnaire. Using multivariate analyses adjusted for potential

confounders, frequency of consumption of sugared carbonated drinks was

positively associated with risk of dental erosion. Daily consumption of

sugared carbonated drinks was associated with a 75% increased risk of

dental erosion. Thus, the authors of this study conclude, " Of all tested

factors in this sample of schoolchildren the consumption of sugared

carbonated drinks is most associated with dental erosion. "
