Guest guest
I'm glad to discover <vbg> that my hubby isn't the only one who zones out and leaves the woman with ALL the planning, and the organizing, the arrangements, the packing ... he's a good driver, and I'm the better navigator. Now we have a cat (house sitter required) and dog (kennel required) and both have jobs (vacation requests required for the Friday afternoon). I took a large satchel just to hold everyone's medications ... there must have been 2 dozen things in it ... We just got back from a weekend trip to visit Dad and his wife. It really went well. Kids were perfect (wish my NT daughter'd be half that easy at home), and hubby not only didn't drink to excess, but didn't belch once and managed to stay up 'til 10 p.m. He also didn't make any prejudicial jokes or say anything otherwise to offend my family. I was quite impressed and told him so. Also, he was extremely discreet about his disgusting smoking habit and found a few plausible excuses each day to slip off somewhere, coming back sans-parfume (odor-free). We did watch TV. We all watched Kangaroo Jack. It reminded Dad and of their trip to Australia last year. Unfortunately, I fell asleep in the middle ... Now I have got to tell all about this. , 15, AS, is quite content to sit in the car for 5 hours or more and look out the window. He doesn't require book, CD player, fiddle toys, etc. as does his sister. He doesn't complain, insist he has to go to the bathroom NOW, or keep on about when we're going to get there. Given the choice, I'd take him travelling over his sister any day! Of course he did manage to get dressed in all the wrong clothes on our last day (cold-weather clothes on a hot hot day), and when I told him to get changed, changed his underwear and socks too. And guess where he put the ones he had worn " only for a little while " ? Uh huh, right back in the suitcase. And when we got home I found that he had had poop bum, so I washed ALL leftover undies whether they looked worn or not ... / 4makelas@... Sometimes I need a vacation to survive the vacation. We just got back ourselves from a 4 day camping trip to the Redwoods. The campsite was picture perfect, the Eel River was warm, inviting, and awesome to swim in..... the error was not inviting other families. I failed to remember that my dh doesn't talk much and we really could have used a diversion conversationally speaking. He just doesn't see the need for chit chat, isn't interested in hanging out in the sun and was the only one who had a wet suit to swim in the river. His quirks never cease to amaze me.....however, I'm getting used to them! My 2.5 yr old started chanting " home " after the first day while Joe (AS?) told me he could go camping forever (must be from my side of the family)! Joe was excellent with only a minor meltdown usually due to Sam stealing some special toy! Sam (NT~maybe) was the hard one on the trip....go figure. Next trip is in August.....not camping, but we are going for 9 days. Will Sam make it???? I sure hope so. The last day we packed up (we left early) and I wanted to swim in the river for a couple hours before heading home....Sam tantrumed, screamed etc for 1/2 hr. while we are trying to appease him and not disturb the other people there. He finally calmed down, but sheesh! How can someone scream that long? Johanna
Guest guest
Kathy, I know it's not funny, but yet it kinda is. I truly understand. I don't really think of my dh as an Aspie, but he's quite content w/ solitude. And electronics! Then there are my PDD boys who were so happy to come home after 2 weeks in Texas. In Texas I took them everywhere. Did they truly appreciate it though? Heck no. They are much happier at home w/ their electronics! Why do I bother! a > Hi all, > I was away last week and am catching up on all the posts. As > vacations with my family go, it wasn't horrible. But I am thrilled > to have it behind me. When he was younger he'd simply stare out the window. But my youngest is another story. He must get nervous. He fusses. He refuses to play w/ anything. Then he ends up getting the runs. And the whole time we are somewhere other than home he's unhappy. He's clingy, fussy, etc. Usually falls ill too. It's simply too much for him, esp the longer trips. Lucky for him I only visit Texas once a year. a
Guest guest
Oh, I bet most of our kids can equal, if not rival that time-wise. You should hear when we've forgotten his medication when we go sailing. Now THAT'S hard on the ears! And it lasts forever. It's a wonder his father hasn't tossed him overboard. Except that it is our fault for forgetting meds. sigh. I don't know how someone can scream that long. It shows great dedication. Guest guest
Hi Everybody Just back from Florida - 2 wks - Good Lord - I need a vacation. LOL!!! We had a good time. Bradley - 6 - the Aspie - first time in the ocean - ran in and got knocked over - got up - knocked over - came out - threw up on the beach - and believe it or not - the boy turned around and ran right back out in the water! I was shocked!!! My Aspie - right back out there. I thought - that's it, he'll never go back out in the ocean for a few years - but the boy was a trooper! I was very proud of him. He even went back out a couple different days. Medieval Times Restaurant was amazing. It was a jousting match/tournament and dinner. However, the Aspie triats kicked back in and he had a meltdown because our " Knight " lost. He actually had body tremors. His whole body was shaking like he touched an electric current and he freaked and wanted to leave. We worked that out but honestly, I never saw it coming. I usually explain things pretty well, but it never occurred to me that he would lose his mind if our Knight lost. So - anyway, we are home and I thought the TV comment was funny because the whole trip - all the kids wanted to do was swim in the hotel pool. If I had known that, I would have let them sleep in a hotel and then taken them to my girlfriends house to swim in her pool. It sure would have saved me a lot of money. ) I hope everyone is well. Dawn ps Johanna - I would LOVE to see the redwoods. How was it??? Amazing?? An 8 hour drive and the highlight for my men is > the TV's. Calgon, take me away! > That is too funny! Glad you survived the vacation! Sometimes I need a vacation to survive the vacation. We just got back ourselves from a 4 day camping trip to the Redwoods. (However, I'd stay at the Ahwahnee Hotel if he agreed to that!) I'm afraid the kids will smuggle food into the tent and I won't know until its too late. I know I wouldn't sleep....every noise would be a bear! LOL. Apparently you can still have the smell of food on your hands and they know it! Thankfully, bears were not a big concern where we were camping or else I'm in big denial:) The Redwoods were beautiful and everyone except the 2 yr old had a great time. For whatever the reason is, the redwoods or pines for that matter seem to really relax me. Some say its the negative ions that have that calming effect....could be. We spread out our sleeping bags on the beds and went off to dinner. When we came back, we found that our cabin door had been ripped off by a bear! He didn't get any food - it was all locked up tight. Guest guest
We're going up to Lassen Volcanic National Park in August (we fly to San Francisco, then to Chico) (California) for about a week. It's got all sorts of cool volcanic stuff going on. There are fumaroles, mudpots and hot springs, as well as a big volcano to climb. There's snow through June! There's lots of camping there, but given that we're flying, we're gonna be landlubbers and stay at a motel. I haven't learned the art of packing light for camping, although I'm sure it can be done. I'd love to see the Redwoods. That's on my list of places to go. Was it terribly crowded? Guest guest
Years ago we camped in Yellowstone and there was a bear attack. We didn't realize it until later but the next night they used us for " bait " and we could hear the rangers all over the two way radios. They did eventually trap the mother bear and put her back up in the moutains...but the man attacked did die from his injuries. We even had my aunt's cat with us in the camper...the cat was freaked to say the least that night. We think it sensed something looming. I wouldn't have thought that was funny either. That is just mean. I had a similar kind of experience when we were getting EEg's and MRI's done on Reece. He was 4 yo at the time and as soon as we got to the hospital and started going up the elevator, he would start making a high pitched sound in distress. he did that one day and we got off on neurology to be met by one of the people who was on the elevator. She smiled at me and said, 'I knew you'd be coming here!' I was too surprised to say anything back at the time but it didn't feel good to hear that. Thanks - we look like we belong in neurology. Guest guest
Hi , we just loved OC when we used to go there. used to be so afraid of the " guy that was holding his own head & talking " before you got on the one ride which was directly on the board walk. He was afraid of the sea gulls too. As a reward for being good during the day we would let him ride 4 rides a night. He wouldn't go near the water for 2 years now he goes in to above his knees. Take care,Betty Stack <t juhe3stacks@...> wrote:We went to OC land for a week and it was very nice. Unfortunately my mil came along but that was the only real downside to the trip. Will's oc side kicked in big time. He was opening and closing doors continuously. That is normally just annoying but with the wet summer we had this year there were millions of mosquitos around. My legs are covered and I even used Off. I told he had to stop and if he didn't he would get a time out. He had to find another way to put his energy or just use inside doors because every body was getting bit. Of course my mil went on about how he couldn't help it and how just because he was opening and closing doors that doesn't mean he let bugs in. Then she said what an awful mother I am and she doesn't know how he stands living with me.I kept my mouth shut. We had a great time at the beach and Will loved the sand and the water. Dh took him out way too far for my taste and I was scared but kept my mouth shut. He had a lot of fun on the boardwalk too and just loves the rides. The faster and the higher they go the more he loves it. Dh takes him most of the time but on fortunately since is only 4 Mommy has to take him on to and Mommy is a big chicken. We won lots of junk too. I won Will a sztuffed dog because the man guessed my age at 38 and I am 42. I smiled the rest of the night at that one. I was wondering if others have kids with SID that are under sensitive to pain and such? had quite a few bites himself but never itched or even seemed to know they were there. Tonight we had a trip to the ER just to let us know vacation is over. walked into a door frame and cut his head. They used dermabond to close it so he didn't have to get stitches. Anybody have any experience with it? I was upset by a comment the nurse made when she was discharging him. She was telling (dh) what to look for with head injuries. She said if he acts unusual to bring him back. Then she said that meant if he started acting like a normal 4 year old bring him back right away. She laughed but I didn't think it was fuuny. Guest guest
Becky, I¹ve read to much research to ignore the food connection with inflammation. Allergic reactions can evoke such a wide variety of symptoms that it is difficult to pinpoint food allergies. To make it worse, the researchers disagree about how many people really suffer from food allergies or intolerance. The Omega 6 fatty acids found in corn and sunflower oil are thought to cause inflammation. It is very possible that corn could cause an inflammatory response. It isn¹t easy to completely eliminate grains such as corn and wheat since as you mentioned, it is hidden in most of the processed foods we eat. I hope you recuperate from your vacation quickly. Glad you had so much fun, but sorry you had to pay the price for it. a > > I got back from vacation last Sunday and am still recovering from the extreme > fatigue. Guest guest
I was just reading an article, (don't know what I did with it) saying that radon kills more people than carbon dioxide. There is evidently a simple radon testing kit that you could get to see if you have this radioactive substance in your air. Some people get to feeling ill, and never know that it could be coming from radon. Roni AthleticItaliano@... wrote: Roni, Yes, I do. Why do you ask? AJ **************Start the year off right.
