Guest guest
1. " Dove " is not a normal male name in the USA. It may be in some other culture, but not here. I don't know Portia's ethnicity. Her husband is Jewish. A male " Dove " may fly well in a kibbutz but not in a nation where such folks are less than 2% of the population. 2. The worst name I ever heard of was held by a former student at Michigan, the year before me. His name was " Duck " and he lived in Waddle, Pennsylvania. No kidding. He committed suicide during his Freshman year. Guest guest
Hello, That *is* horrible. A person with a name like that, even if he weren't laughed at, would most likely have been the target of considerable abuse from bureaucrats who thought he was being " cute " , defiant, or deceitful when he signed an important form " Duck. " Imagine what the IRS would think, for instance... I once worked with a man at a telemarketing firm who was named Greg Brady. I imagine he heard his share of cracks along the lines of, " Hey, Greg, where's Marcia and Jan? Did Alice pack your lunch? " RE: Digest Number 816; two comments on names.... > > > 1. Guest guest
Hi, I just remembered something. Twenty years ago, I had an orthopedist named Dokter--he was, therefore, Dr. Dokter. Makes you wonder if his name influenced his choice of profession. Actually, if that were my last name, I doubt I'd consider pursuing a medical degree... Guest guest
Almost twenty years ago, I worked as a hospital janitor, and I remembered frequently hearing " Dr. Bonebreak " over the paging system. I asked my parents about this just recently. They said that they know him and he still practices in the area. :-) Dave March > Hi, > > I just remembered something. Guest guest
We had an Airman Sargent when I was in basic training. She should be Sgt. Sargent by now, or possibly Tech-Sergeant Sargent.
