1. " Dove " is not a normal male name in the USA. It may be in some

other culture, but not here.

I don't know Portia's ethnicity. Her husband is Jewish. A male " Dove " may

fly well in a kibbutz but not in a nation where such folks are less than 2%

of the population.

2. The worst name I ever heard of was held by a former student at

Michigan, the year before me. His name was " Duck " and he lived in

Waddle, Pennsylvania. No kidding. He committed suicide during his Freshman

year.

Hello,

That *is* horrible. A person with a name like that, even if he weren't

laughed at, would most likely have been the target of considerable abuse

from bureaucrats who thought he was being " cute " , defiant, or deceitful when

he signed an important form " Duck. " Imagine what the IRS would think,

for instance...

I once worked with a man at a telemarketing firm who was named Greg Brady. I

imagine he heard his share of cracks along the lines of, " Hey, Greg, where's

Marcia and Jan? Did Alice pack your lunch? "

I read a news article once about a guy whose name was Homer Simpson. It

seems that he can't order a pizza or do anything else like that on the

phone... everyone thinks he is messing with them.

I remember hearing during the gulf war in the '90s that there was a

kid somewhere in the midwestern US named Saddam Hussein.

Oh, that's so sad. ( Duck)

I have friend who goes by Bunny, her married name was Hoppes.

She took back her maiden name.

Camille - PS sorry about your bird - I had a good friend who was a

beebe parrot, when I was in high-school. I was very sad when he died.

Oh! That reminds me! I know a computer technician in Springfield OH (just up

the road from here about twelve miles) whose name is Bart Simpson, his

sister's name is , and he went to high school with the lady that does

" The Simpsons " Bart Simpson.

I just thought it was pretty cool.

Hi,

I just remembered something. Twenty years ago, I had an orthopedist named

Dokter--he was, therefore, Dr. Dokter. Makes you wonder if his name

influenced his choice of profession. Actually, if that were my last name, I

doubt I'd consider pursuing a medical degree...

Almost twenty years ago, I worked as a hospital janitor, and I

remembered frequently hearing " Dr. Bonebreak " over the paging

system. I asked my parents about this just recently. They said

that they know him and he still practices in the area.

Then, there's the fictional character from Catch 22: Major Major... who has

the rank of Major, and the middle name of Major as well. Yes, Major Major

Major Major. Sick, isn't it?

Hi,

It gets better. She was the department head of the Social Work Service at

the 97th General Hospital in furt, Germany. In other words, she was in

charge of all the counselors...

My " rare anomaly " surgeon for the last two years has the entertaining name of

Dr. Organ ... and the counselor on-call for depressive episodes with the same

HMO 2 years ago is (iirc) Dr. Sunshine!

We had an Airman Sargent when I was in basic training. She should be Sgt.

Sargent by now, or possibly Tech-Sergeant Sargent.

Well, so long as it's not Dr. Little-Sunshine.
