Guest guest
Hi, I have been experimenting with topical hydrocortisone cream for several weeks. I have not yet got my dosing figured out. I do not think dosing with topical hydrocortisone is the same as with oral. In the meantime, a couple of weeks ago I had this unusual experience for me. I watched the new Die Hard DVD and not once during that movie did I experience my usual " shot of adrenalin " that I typically have frequently while watching intense things on TV. What happens is that if I see something like someone being hurt or even vomiting on TV, I will feel a small shot of adrenalin going into my blood stream. This happens also if I am trying to take a nap without my fan and someone in the other room makes a loud noise or something scares me wile I am driving (passenger also). Sometimes I even feel a milder version every time I hear my husband snore at night. I am assuming that I am feeling a shot/squirt of adrenalin and not some other hormone (but I am not sure). The odd thing is that this has been going on so long that I did not even realize how abnormal it was until I watched that DVD and it did not happen. I think that day I got my hydrocortisone cream dose right (too bad I was not taking notes). This experience has convinced me even more that I have an adrenal problem. My question is what the heck is going on with me every time I have an inappropriate squirt/shot of adrenalin and why? I have two adrenal books, the new book by Reiss, have read multiple articles, and I still do not understand. I do not recall anything in those books describing what is going on with these adrenalin shots. Taking the correct dose of hydrocortisone cream gets rid of this problem so I am finally cluing in that it is actually a problem and is likely do to adrenal fatigue. Here is some more background info. A year ago I had a bad virus and was exhausted afterwords. I had a positive pupil test for adrenal fatigue. I treated myself with adrenal extract, licorice, vit C per . I felt better but still continued to have fatigue after lunch on most days (many naps). I also had low ferritin at the same time and I had been thinking that most of my issues were from the low ferritin but now I have changed my mind. Before my virus, my thumb nails were nice (flat, no dips), after my cold I got horizontal dips in my thumbnails that did not go away. An adrenal You Tube lecture that I listened to recently said that bad fingernails are a sign of adrenal fatigue—first time I ever heard that but makes sense to me because of my thumb nails. After treating with adrenal extract/Vit C my positive pupil response was normal and my BP tests were normal. I continued with the adrenal extract because it helped me feel better (but still had after lunch fatigue). I take my temp. every day and it is normal so I do not think I have a thyroid problem in addition to this adrenal issue. My afternoon temps are up where they should be as well. I did try the temp graphing last spring but my averages were fairly close and normal. Several weeks ago I started treating my shoulder issue with topical hydrocortisone. Quite amazingly my fatigue issues got so much better. I am even noticing that my thumb nails are better. I am having trouble with figuring out my topical dose though. I think it must be similar to topical testosterone where you have to take a dose or two early in the day otherwise you will have issues with sleep. Now that I have been treating myself with topical hydrocortisone, I think that if I do a an adrenal saliva test it will be incorrect and useless because Reiss said in his last book that topical hormones cause saliva tests to be inaccurately high. I have no clue how long I would have to be off of topical hydrocortisone before my saliva test would become accurate. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
