Guest guest
Hey everyone. I was just wondering how many detethering surgeries you have had. I'm hoping and praying that my nsg doesn't mention the s word tommorow. Just wondering how common it is to have to have more than one surgery. Thanks sara

Guest guest
Sara, I had two surgeries, 10 years apart. The first was a raging success, then I had symptoms again. The second was the last. It wasn't as successful, but I'm not giving anyone another go at my spine, which shouldn't be used by anyone else as a good reason to say no to surgery, but I just don't think they can do me anymore good surgically. My bladder is gone. Surgery won't get it back. My legs hurt, surgery won't end that. My legs are weak, and have been so for a long, long time. I don't see a third surgery as being anything beneficial for me. If you question the benefit of another surgery, get a second opinion, and a third. It isn't a fun surgery, so I understand your reluctance and hesitation! Good luck! > Hey everyone. I was just wondering how many detethering surgeries you > have had. Guest guest
Sara, Yes, by all means get as many opinions as possible until your mind is at ease. I had to get a second opinion on a shunt and detethering surgery that I have not gotten yet. My headaches are much better. I go back to my neurosurgeon in October to see what she says. Keep praying and everything will be alright. I will keep all of you in prayer. Felicia (fee fee) Re: surgery Sara, I had two surgeries, 10 years apart. Guest guest
Hi Sara, I've had two detetherings. The first in January of 2003 and the second in February of 2004. They did a duraplasty with bovine pericardium (cow tissue) during the second one, which was meant to enlarge the spinal canal in the hopes that if my cord had more room, it wouldn't retether again. Good luck with your neurosurgeon. Best, Debbie Subject: surgery Hey everyone. I was just wondering how many detethering surgeries you have had. Guest guest
Hi Sara, I've only had one detethering surgery, and was told " no more back surgeries " because my tethering is caused by adhesive arachnoiditis (discovered during surgery). As you have read from others' posts, some people do have more than one and it helps. Good luck with your appointment, let us know what your nsg says. Take care, V. streamsinthedesert wrote: Hey everyone. I was just wondering how many detethering surgeries you have had. I'm hoping and praying that my nsg doesn't mention the s word tommorow. Guest guest
Thank you for the info. Have you had this surgery? Or know anything more about it? Thanks Brande wrote:Hopefully, to ease your fears, they normally do not cut the Cord! I've heard of it being done, but it's not likely that they will. Detethering itself, does not involve cutting the Cord. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... Could someone please share if they have had the surgery where they cut this cord? I'm pretty scared about but really tired of the pill and pain game. The Dr. seems to feel this will solve the problem, somehow having this problem for 40 years now it seems to good to be true.
