Fred,

This response is a bit late (been out of touch), so you may be

feeling the effects of the drug by now.

A bit of history. I took Elivil for a while to help with PTSD.

Notriptyline is a first cousin of Elivil. Worked out well, returning

me to a near normal sleep pattern and stopping a few PTSD less

disireable symptoms. I have nerve damage, not only from Diabetes, but

also from nearly 20 years as a combat advisor. I`ve been shot, blown

up, had a few too many bad parachute landings and a variety of

tropical diseases. The Doc has had me on Nortriptyline now for a

while and most of the pain in my legs, wrists and hands is now very

minimal. I also had tremors in my fingers, that`s also gone. You have

to take it for a while to start getting relief as it is very subtle.

The only side effect I have is a few night terrors, but hell, I

consider it a good trade for relief from the constant pain. Also, it

is recommended that once the drug is established in your system you

never go off of it. The withdrawl is very slow and the side effects

are rough psycologically. I take 75mg at night. Good luck.......Jack

You need to find out which medication is causing you to itch as that is a sign

of an allergic reaction. I react to vicodin - itching, feels like my skin is

crawling. I have an instant reaction to morphine when given through an IV. The

even gave me benadryl first, but it did no good.

Well I believe it is the Oxycontin. I took them this morning and have been

itching all over. So I called the Dr and he said as long as I am not broke

out or hives that I'm not allergic to it that is is a normal side effect and

to take 2 benedryl each time I take it. So we will see if it helps the

itching next time around.

Hi ,

I was itchy when I first started OxyContin; it went away after a few weeks. The

itch was little trouble to me for the amount of pain relief I got. I hope it

gets better for you!

A whole long time ago I remember some itching which resolved itself. Should do

the same for you. Codeine made me itch. That's all gone now. Man...I can't

afford a reaction to opiates. damn!! Scary!!

Opana ER is pretty much the same as _Oxycontin

_ (http://www.topix.com/forum/drug/oxycontin/T5U026AA5SSAT0SJL#) except

Opana contains Oxymorphone instead of Oxycontin which is in Oxycontin.

Oxymorphone is a drug that has been around for along time and just now has the

FDA

approve it's extended release form. Opana also comes in immediate release

5 and 10mg forms as well. Opana is about twice as strong as Oxycontin so

one 10mg OC is equal to a 20mg Opana ER. Go to _www.endo.com_

(http://www.endo.com/) to learn more and also research the drug at these

websites.

_www.erowid.com_ (http://www.erowid.com/) and _www.pharmer.org_

(http://www.pharmer.org/) and remember the active ingrediant in Opana ER is

Oxymorphone.

Oxymorphone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. It is

similar to morphine.

It doesn't pull me down like the Oyxcontin did. I don't like that stuff at all.

I felt like crap. My Dr did say the Opana was twice as strong. but my pain has

been out of control for awhile. I am on the 40mg, with Roxycondone 15 mg 3 times

a day for break through. thanks for the info. In my opinion it is much better

than the oxy. I don't know how anyone could get addicted to oxycontin it made me

feel terrible. But I guess it really helps a lot of people. Ormorph works pretty

good for me too.

-Diane, from what I know about th emeds you are listing, it is probably the oxy

and benadryl that r giving u th efloating feeling. Lyrica is like neutrotin.

Flexerol is a muscle relaxor but is like sedative like the old types. But

everyone reacts differently to meds. I hope your itchies past as your body gets

used to the medication. Huzs and peace, Tami (*U*)

It was a good med. I took it 4 months and the $568 put me in a

donut hole in 4 months. The other 8 months I had to pay for ALL

my meds. I wasn't aware of the donut thing w/my insurance.

Please, be careful. I had to do w/out a LOT of my meds as I

could NOT pay for them.

Thanks for the info on the donut hole; I don't fully inderstand what it means

but it sounds like people should check into that. I take Oxycontin and the dose

I take is over $740/month!! I'm on Medicare/Medicaid so am extremely lucky to

have good ins that pays it; although I'm sure they don't like me much with all

my meds costing over $1300/month!

Take care,

The oxy didn't help me @ all. Finally found the MS er and it has

helped better than anything so far. It comes in the generic also.

I am on medicare w/BCBS part d supplement. Over $200 comes

out of my little check before I even see it. I have $2800 yearly for

meds before the hole hits. After $4400 a year has been paid the

catastrophe (sp) kicks in. Insurance, what a racket. Where would

we be w/out it though? Hope you have a great day.
