Guest guest
I'm in the process, currently. Part of it is to get handouts, (I make less than $2 above minimum wage), and part of it is to avoid misdiagnosis. Diagnosis > Has anybody here been formally diagnosed as an adult? I also must admit that there's a certain > satisfaction in telling off people who insist you're not autistic. > As my counselor said, " From now on, whenever anyone says you're not > autistic, stick your tongue out at them and tell them your doctor > says they're wrong. " *grin* > > --Parrish My therapist is the one insisting I can't be autistic. My mother's reaction to this was, " he doesn't know you very well. " My response was one of confirmation, " we have a strictly defined client/therapist relationship that limits both the scope of conversation and the time frame to less than one our each month. " I didn't mention the fact that I have walked in *stoned out of my mind* into his office and not been found out. It was an interesting experience, but one I wouldn't want to repeat. Guest guest
I have been " formally " dx'ed....a few yrs. ago.It existed of four appts.. over a period of time, interviewing for childhood experiences, a bunch of sort of fun tests and some not fun but I took it all in a lighthearted manner. each appt. seemed four hrs. long, thats my memory now, but were probably not, in retrospect. My psychologist took a while to go over test results and called me in at last to see seven pages worth of write-up on me and I was told Aspergers is on the autistic spectrum so I always thought autistic/asperger were interchangeable. words shmerds. I had a rapport with her, she'd dx'ed my son a yr. earlier.I did puzzles, math, 'tell what the people are thinking in the picture,' stories,' etc. Kim ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Now that I know better, I'm busy un-learning those lessons with both hands. I'm also in the process of getting my official " diagnosis " , partly for the same reasons Kaiden mentioned, but mostly for the sake of my own self-righteousness while trouncing smartypantses who sneer, " you're not autistic! " But I would hope that, by the time I actually recieve my dx, I will no longer be " an adult " . :-) Dave March
