Guest guest
Hi, " I'd rather be rocking " is a good one, I like " Autistics - Rock on! " or some version of that, too. Haven't worked it out though. Camille > >I have a new bumper sticker. Guest guest
as the mother of a pacer (taught me a thing or two and I do use pacing on purpose now if I'm freaking at home) I want to say... THANK YOU! dani Camille wrote: > Hi, > > I have a new bumper sticker. It's in the folder called " art " in the > photos. > > Need feedback. Guest guest
Nothing beats a good *short* phrase with an implicit joke and/or multi-layerded message. I like these: " Autism Rocks " ( " but " , the implicit joke is a bit too vague/indirect, the depth can be easily overlooked) " Autistic People Rock " ( " but " , the joke is preserved, but perhaps a bit too " literal " to be funny, and the double meaning of " Rock " is obscured along with its positive message about autistics.) Okay, they're still both plenty-good, and I'm just arguing over nuances here, but there is a way to keep the best of both worlds. (Someone may have already thought of this, and as I'm about 50 messages behind, I'll be mighty embarrassed at re-inventing the wheel, here...oh, well...) So, the best way I can think of to keep the brevity, punch, dual-meaning, and implicit message intact is: " AUTISTICS ROCK! " Whaddaya' think? Could this be the final revision? :-) (Or am I late to the party, as usual? :-\ ) Dave March, who is most uniquely adept at the high-art of refining *other people's* ideas! :-D > > > >I have a new bumper sticker. Guest guest
Hi Dave, As far as I know, you are the first one to put " autistics rock! " out there for all to see. That one did occur to me, but I thought it was hard to say....not really a consideration when making bumper stickers though, so I do think that you may have created the definitive 2 word zinger using the theme of autism and rocking. I will hold out to see if someone tops you, though. :-) Rock on Autistics! ? Monotropism - it's a good idea. ? That one needs help. Camille > > > > >I have a new bumper sticker. Guest guest
Hiya! Camille: " Did I ever share my favorite neologism? It's " neologismism " . " Yikes! Couldn't you have found a bigger nutshell to put me in? I'm a compulsionary claustrophobicist! :-O I once did a chapter review paper on a psych textbook under the title, " Dichotomism never sleeps! " The course instructor said skeptically, " Is that a word? " I said, " It is now " , and referred her to an essay on linguistic morphology! :-D Are you familiar with the term " malapropism " ? It refers to a sort of comical " pseudoneologismism " , and if you're not already familiar with it, I think you would enjoy learning of it's origin. :-) Dave March " Monotropism is a One-Trick Pony. Guest guest
A monotropic pony only needs one trick, Dave. :-) I know what a malapropism is and I sort of remember the derivation of the name, but not exactly. It's a fictional character... although Spoonerisms came from a real person, if I remember right. Guest guest
Hi, Wasn't the word " malapropism " derived from a character in an 18th century play, a Mrs. Malaprop? (According to dictionary.com, it was a play called " The Rivals. " ) The character used words incorrectly much the way Archie Bunker did much later. (You might remember Archie saying " groinocologist " instead of " gynecologist. " At least he had the right general area).
