Does anyone have experience with inflammation and how to deal with it? As I continue housebound and inactive with this virus, I'm experiencing increasing pain problems. Even sitting at the computer typing or using the mouse to scroll--things like this are causing pain in my right forearm. My entire spine hurts all the time. Initially I'd thought I'm just getting stiff and creaky from lack of exercise, which had been part of my daily regimen until I got too sick to do it. I've tried very light movement, but it just exhausts me and increases the coughing.

Now I'm thinking maybe there's an inflammation process going on. But if I google "inflammation" I get hundreds of thousands of websites to wade through. So I thought before dedicating many hours to this, I would simply ask whether anyone else has this problem and how you deal with it. I know my body has been severely compromised in many ways by Lyme, and this is likely one of them. Aging doesn't help much, either.

Hi, Peggy.

Could this be due to seasonal flare-up of borrelia? I'm sure seeing a surge

right now.

Hi Sherry. Maybe, but I have these pain issues all the time; they're just worse right now. Which is why I initially chalked it up to inactivity, everything just congealing and getting stiff. But it seems to be more than that, so I'm looking for an explanation--and something I can do about it.

Hi Peggy

I have successfully used Serraptase -- an enzyme from silk worms -- to treat acute infection with great success. Much better than pharm anti-inflams. I get mine from www.iherb.com -- the one I buy is the double strength Dr Murray's and take 4 tablets 2-3 times a day for the first few days -- take on an empty stomach -- then reduce the dose as the imflamation reduces. it is not cheap but really effective.

Thanks, Debra. I took Serrapeptase, from Nutramedix, for several months, but I followed the directions on the bottle which said take one a day. So I took a full bottle, noticed nothing at all, and didn't buy another bottle. I can't even remember what I was taking it for, but it wasn't inflammation.

You said you take it to treat acute infection, but you also mentioned inflammation. I have a terrible upper respiratory infection, but my inflammation is throughout the body in muscles, tendons, etc. Are you saying it might treat both conditions?

I'm glad I asked the initial question because I'm working on an iHerb order today.

Hi again Debra,

I went to iHerb and typed in Dr. Murray's Serrapeptase and it came up proteolytic enzymes. That contains various enzymes and something called Serratia peptidase. It's $26.57 for 90 tablets. Is that the one you're talking about?

Sorry, Peggy -- "acute infection" should have read "acute imflamation" -- my error.

Have you looked at SAMe for soft tissue pain? best value is on iherb -- not specifially for imflamation, but defintley relieves soft tissue pain asscoiated with fibromyalgia.

Thanks, Debra. Yes, I've taken SamE. As with so many things I've tried, I noticed nothing at all while on it. I did give it a good try, too. It was too expensive to continue without seeing some effect.

I've taken Wobenzym in the past, and it was recommended to take away from food so the effect would be on your inflammation and not on aiding digestion. Same thing here?

Hi Peggy,

I had pretty bad inflammation, until I really got aggressive with the Mycoplasma

treatments. Since reducing the Mycoplasma load, I have noticed far less pain.

I know that Mycoplasma is related to rheumatoid arthritis. The other thing that

is huge is the diet. I would avoid all dairy and gluten if you are not doing so

already. I found that I had an allergic response to HCL. I have been taking

HCL for a long time, because of low stomach acid. I did a NAET treatment on

Acid and most of my pain went away. This is not to say that clearing acid will

help you, but any food allergies are going to contribute to your pain. I have

been on a very limited diet these last few weeks and the pain is gone. Another

remedy for inflammation is vitamin B5, Cod Liver Oil and a little Sauerkraut.

Someone told me about this inflammation remedy, but I can't vouch for it's

effectiveness since I have not tried it. There is also a supplement that my

husband likes called Zyflamend.

Yes, both are enzymes, so will digest food if there is any around.

When treating imflamation, I take 4 of the serraptase 1st thing in the morning with water, and then wait at least an hour befroe taking anything else or eating. Then took 4 tablets away from food 2x more thru the day. The effect was noticeable within a day or so.

Unfortuanlatley the 90 tabs bottle doesn't last long when taking 12 per day -- but I usually find and can reduce the dose to taking 4 tabs 2x per day after a week; and then see if you need to continue.

So hope it works for you! Do experiment with doses and frequencies of doses -- these enzymes do reduce imflamatiion by digesting damaged tissue -- so you just need to find an effective dose.

Hi ,

It's really good to know this, as I'm coiling for Mycoplasma and I do get symptoms if I stop for a few days. Which confirms, as far as I can, that I have it. So the idea that eliminating it can relieve inflammation is very welcome news.

I'm already on B vitamins and cod liver oil but no sauerkraut. I tried fermented vegetables several years ago after reading The Body Ecology Diet, but saw no change in my health. And since I didn't much like them, I gave up on it. I can't get good fermented vegetables here--they all contain sugar! So I'd have to make my own, and I'm already devoting time and energy to making kefir and kombucha, so haven't taken the plunge on fermenting vegetables.

As to the HCl, I'm waiting for results from a Metametrix test, so hope to get some clue about my digestive situation, which I'm sure impacts everything.

Hi again ,

I also forgot to say that the idea this inflammation could be from Mycoplasma would explain why it doesn't respond to enzymes or any of the other remedies that are supposed to help with inflammation. If there's an active infection present that's causing the inflammation, it would seem that the inflammation will continue until the infection is reduced then eliminated. In that case, any inflammation remedies are being sent into a black hole. Make sense?

Pro-Trauma is made by Progena, and you can see what is in it here:

I use this for lyme flares and herxes when there's a lot of pain, and take it

like a pain med--just when I need it.

If it helps, I get my nattokinase and serraptase in powder form from Beyond a

Century and it is much much cheaper.

Thanks for this dosage info, I think it is worth a try. I take them to help

Yes, exactly! Though I am good at energetically testing myself for food

allergies and there have been some places that were inflammed that just didn't

respond to my usual NAET treatments. I have now reduced my Mycoplasma load from

45% of my body being infected to about 26%, what I have really noticed is the

thumb joints have quit hurting and the knees as well. Possibly because I am

holding the coil with my hands and so the hands would be the first place that

the infection is eradicated. However, I do think food allergies are a BIG

trigger too. Clearing my allergy to HCL made a huge difference in the pain I

was experiencing in my foot. Also one of the symptoms of Mycoplasma is

Allergies. One thing I remember reading that Dr. Klinghart said about Lyme is

that it can do something to the brain that makes us more susceptible to

emotional allergies. I have really noticed this when using EFT. I sometimes

will chase pain all over my body using EFT until it is finally eliminated. What

I have learned from a class I took on EFT is that if the pain moves around when

you are tapping on it, then it is usually and emotional allergy. I think EFT is

a very good tool to use if you have Lyme, because we are prone to emotionally

based allergies and a little tapping might totally eliminate the pain and

inflammation. Go to www.emofree.com to download a free how to manual.

Hi Sue,

How do you know that your Mycoplasma load has gone from 45% to 26%? Is this information via muscle testing, or is there some other means of knowing this? I'd love to know what my Mycoplasma load is. I've never been tested for it, and don't even know if tests are available. My "test" is that if I stop coiling for it, I get symptoms.

It's interesting to know that it's possible to have an allergy to HCl--never thought of that, as HCl is produced by the body and simply declines as we age, right? Though I have heard of people developing allergies to their own hormones, etc.

As my cough and cold symptoms go on and on and on, I'm beginning to think more about mold. My house is so dry from central heating in the winter that I have to use a humidifier. So it doesn't seem like mold could be a problem right now, but who knows. I do live on the water, and I do have a basement in which we have to run a dehumidifier in the summer months. So mold might very well be an issue. One more thing to investigate--I've requested Dr. Shoemaker's mold book from the library to refresh my memory on what he says about it.
