Guest guest
Hi You will sign a consent form, before you go to surgery. The surgeon, must explain the procedure, this is called Informed Consent. The surgery will be written on the consent for that you sign. If there is a possibility, that she might need to do more than originally thought, due to the condition, that will be on the consent form too. She cannot do any surgical procedure without your consent. If there is any emergency surgery that must be done, she will ask your next of kin if it's okay. If the surgeon, is simply doing a biopsy, I can't imagine why a tracheostomy would be performed. Write down all your questions, including this one, and ask your surgeon. Do not sign the consent form, until you are 100% satisfied with your questions. Here are two sites about informed consent: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/informed_consent/article_em.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informed_consent I hope this helps.
