Guest guest
Hello, and welcome Kathy, Wow! just Wow! You are awesome. What a great attitude you have, it is so refreshing. I'm always just a little amazed at how many women wind up 'alone' with this chronic pain thing, compared to how many men manage to be mated to someone who is actively 'moving mountains' for them. I have belonged to several pain groups (down to 2 now, this and another, both qualify as The Best), and every one of them had women there looking for help for their husband/sig. other. I have only come across ONE man seeking help for his sig. other! Now, now! Don't jump on me too fast! I'm just telling about what I have noticed. I hope there are an excessive amount of exceptions! OK, Kathy, I just read an article in CNN about managing pain- it had little to do with drugs, and everything to do with planning a life. I wonder whether you were the 'ghost writer'! Just a simple, short 'WELCOME'! GBY > > Hello gang, > > I wanted to introduce myself. Guest guest
Hi LaMar, I too am new to the group and deal with spinal pain and pain in my leg. I have also been told I have RSD and FM. I was told at first they thought I had bursitis in my rt hip, now they believe it is RSD. I know spinal pain is no fun and I am glad you found this group too. I hope you will get a lot of help from the nice people on here. Guest guest
Hello, and welcome LaMar! How wonderful for you! I've NEVER been pregnant, but the joy of a new baby on the way is just awesome. I have observed that pregnancy is a strange and mysterious thing, often it lets a body with pain, or other 'debility', to improve or seem to heal. I hope this happens for you. There are so many changes that take place in your body when you are prgnant I doubt anybody has it figured out yet. I'm one of 9 siblings, have 7 children, and 3 grandchildren, like I said- I have observed pregnancy, often! I'm still in awe of it (and very glad a man can't get pregnant). God bless you and your baby!
Guest guest
I am much older than you. I am 52 so I am actually old enough to be your mom! I also suffer from much pain and manyother health problems as well. You are right a person does loose friends when you are going through all of this. I also know you ahve probably heard the saying that your true friends will stick by you. That of course is true, but it still hurts! My parent's divorced after 28 years of marriage so I understand more than you can ever imagine how you feel about that. It really hurts doesn't it? The people that you always thought could keep your world on an even level just have thrown a hurricane right in the middle and then expect you to cope with it! Kind of hard. Is there any where you could volunteer? Somewhere you could do something for someone else for a few hours? I know transportation is a problem. We have a service in our city that actually will bring you things to do if you cannot get to them. One man in my neighborhood actually sorts sacks. Why? Well, there are ladies that make rugs out of plastic sacks and they need them to be sorted into colors so he does that. Then these ladies sell them at a little store inside one of the senior senters and this is how they buy cards and stuff for the residents to send to family members and stuff like that. Of course if you could get out there are tons of things to do. Don't ask me how I got onto all of that. My brain is just working overtime I guess. I really just wanted you to know that I do understand both the pain of hurting physically and the pain of hurting emotionally. I can help you if you need me to any time. I have big shoulders! The only problem is you would probably feel like you were talking to your mom. That would be okay though because when I talk to my kids we always make cookies. We find that we talk so much better with chocolate chip cookies and some pop or tea or milk to drink. In fact I have some dough mixed up and ready to go at all times in my fridge. Just tell me when and I will bake and then we can sit down and talk. I will look forward to it. Of course I wil have to eat your share of the cookies. Buy, hey! I can do that! It is all in the name of friendship! Gwen
Guest guest
Hi Meghan, How awful for you! (((((((Meghan)))))))))) gentle hugs. I sent some info privately that may be helpful. I'm sorry for all the painful things you are going through, and now the added emotional pain of your parents separating. There a lot of caring and knowledgeable folks here, I'm sure you will find a few friends to help you through all that you are facing. You sound like a very strong person and I'm hopeful you will get through all this and continue you life with great success. I know it may not seem so 'rosy' now, but time and persistance make a great difference. You're bad, you're tough! You can do this! Go girl!! GBY > > Fast forward to very recently. Guest guest
Hello Meghan - I'm sorry you're in so much pain that you're " qualified " to join us here, but I'm glad you've found us! It's a good group of friends here, and you'll definitely find people who understand what it means to be in pain, and to feel all alone in that pain sometimes. There are also other young people your age here too - I hope they've noticed your post and will respond. But there are a lot of messages here, as you've probably noticed! So if they don't respond right away, it might be worth posting again with a subject line that says you're looking for other younger members to talk to, if you're interested in finding them specifically. I know it might mean a lot to you to have other people your age to chat with about the struggles of finding friends and having a social life when you have chronic pain, and all the things that go along with life in your 20s. They're always looking for other friends here their own age too, so don't be afraid to shout a bit to find them among the conversations on the list! <smile> I'm 42 myself, with chronic back pain and leg/foot neuropathy from a spinal cord injury. I've only been in pain for about three years, so I've probably got a lot to learn from you! But I do know what it's like to have to fight doctors for a proper diagnosis, and fight for proper pain management, and struggle when friends drop you because you're " too much effort " anymore, and when even your family members don't understand what it's like to hurt 24/7. I'm always happy to be a sympathetic ear when you need to vent! So welcome, Meghan. We're glad you're here! Cheryl in AZ
Guest guest
Congratulations of being a mom! I beleive you will find that being pregnant will help with your pain. It should help your body to release many of the chemicals that will help you deal with the pain. In fact you may find that you want to be continually pregnant! Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. Just wanted to let you know that I really related to you on the work thing. I keep my job to pay the bills and for insurance purposes. And like you, if it wasn't for work, I probably wouldn't get out of bed either....it takes too much energy and effort! What kind of chronic pain do you have? Right now, I've been diagnosed with Fibro, widespread chronic tendonotis, sacroiliitis, peripheral neuropathy....please forgive me if I'm forgetting anything. I also have bipolar II disorder and PLMD or periodic limb movement disorder, which is kind of a sleep seizure. If I don't take Klonopin every night at bedtime, I twitch and jerk in my sleep. It's similar to RLS, but my movements are involuntary...I don't feel the need to keep moving...my body does it all on it's own! I'm also getting geared up to see some specialists to see if there might be something else wrong with me...oh yay! Fibromyalgia isn't a progressive illness, yet I keep getting progressively worse! By the way, I'm Jen, I'm 35, and I live in Ohio! Looking forward to getting to know you better! All my best, Jen

One of our moderator's is Ray, so if it's Ray, may we call you Ray from from whatever place you live? You're right, friends and relatives don't, and can't understand something that is not within their personal experience. What are you doing to help manage your pain? Once again, welcome to the group. Guest guest
Welcome to the group - there are A LOT of people here who completely understand your pain and frustration with family and friends. Here you can relax and let it all out - this is a very safe place to talk about pain, doctors, procedures, family, friends, and how YOU really feel! I'm only 41 but have a herniated disc in my neck with nerve compression and muscle spasms. I take 2400mg neurontin, Tylenol #3 as needed, flexeril as needed but it gives me a dry mouth so I'm gonna switch to valium soon. I'm also getting a home traction unit for my neck. Right now I go to pt for neck traction 2x a week but when I get the home traction kit I'll be doing it 3x a day for 10 minutes. Makes me realize how little 2x a week for 15 minutes really is and I hope I'll feel a lot better once I can do it at home a lot more. I have this unbelievable hip pain in the right side, dr says it's bursitis, pt says to stretch it - that HURTS so forget it. I'll work on the hip after the neck gets better. much love barb k. Guest guest
My son is 4 with constipation issues. After using Miralax for a couple weeks and enemas to clean out, we researched for other natural ways. We use the Kids Natural Calm magnesium (check you health food store). He also does regular potty sits and some aloe vera juice mixed in his prune juice. I also have to keep up with lots for fruits otherwise he gets constipated real quick. Check the encopresis group as well for more ideas. Good luck. You'll find something that will work too for your son. Sherry > > Hello I am a father of a 5yr old son who has had issues with bowel movements since the age of 2. At that time his GI Dr. put him on miralax daily. I wasn't happy with it but the alternative was watch him suffer and keep the toxins in. After changing his diet and introducing fiber, broccoli etc.,he still continues to struggle. Over the past year he began to bleed from his rectum and that is when we had to schedule him for a colonoscopy. We really struggled with putting him under anesthesia but were afraid of what was going on. They only found fissures from the straining and all results from the areas were negative and we couldn't be happier. As a result I have begun researching natural alternatives to miralax because my wife and I both agree 3 years is waaayy too long to be taking it. At the moment we have him on a probiotic, miralax, we have used senna in the past, he takes a fish oil supplement which we found cheapest at vitacost site http://reviews.vitacost.com/4595/20645/coromega-omega-3-fish-oil-supplement-oran\ ge-90-packets-reviews/reviews.htm, and are constantly trying to include things into his diet that could help. Guest guest
Benefiber has a tasteless powder you can mix into drinks and food. It works great for my daughter (age 2). I give her 1- 1 ½ teaspoons per day, your son would likely need more. I also use pedia-lax Fiber gummies, 1-2 per day. Yummy and work quick most of the time. We also juice plus chewables (have to be purchased thru a distributer). I would recommend keeping up the fish oil and probiotic, but not the mirlax. Guest guest
Another suggestion is to try to actually find out what is/are the cause(s) of his constipation. If dietary, then you may resolve this issue by either adding or eliminating certain foods. With my 2.5 y/o daughter, we do probiotics (usually in her oatmeal cereal and Actevia yogurt), vitamin C gummy vites, prune puree, pear sauce, and plenty of water. We've eliminated the foods that cause her constipation - milk and wheat products. Good luck to you. They can do both skin or blood tests for food allergies very simply. Also worth running a test for is celiac disease. Google the testing methods tho, b/c our pediatrician did more than one kind to cover all the bases, I guess not all drs do.
