Hi newly diagnosed member! Didn't catch your name but welcome to this

wonderful group. I've heard that Dr. Oro is very experienced with

Chiari. I haven't had surgery; in fact, still looking for a

neurosurgeon. I do have the headaches & the constant rapid heart rate,

varying numbness/weakness, dizziness, vertigo, ringing in the ears,

vision problems. I'm sure others in the group will respond as well.

I've only been a member since July 99. Be sure to take a look at the

links key at the top of this message board; there is lots of great

info. You can also look at www.chiari.com for more info.

<< Re: Hello >>

Hi Not too long ago I was talking to someone who had a HIp

replacement I forgot his name My husband will be having a total

Hip Replacement in Sept and would like some information. Also

what does everyone think about using the Blood bank or using

your own blood during an operation. I think it would probably

be better to take the time to get your own blood as to taking

a chance on the other Any opinions. My husband is going on

disibility and some of it depends on how long he has to get paid

I just wish this was all over with Thanks for listening This

stress doesnt do my diabeties any good for sure.

Hi - I have a glucose monitor that does that type of thing. Gives you

a glucoprotein number that equals a hbA1C number. Mine came out pretty

close. Last one I did on July 3rd was 220 Glucoprotein. Barb sent me a

conversion chart which showed 220 = 5.2 hbA1C. My last Dr test showed 5.0

hbA1c so I would say it was very close!

You hbA1c numbers are so good - I am surprised you are getting those high

numbers! Maybe you spike and come down fast and stay low the rest of the

time so your average is still good. Still the spikes I think are not great.

I like to stay under 140 but it isn't always possible. This morning I spiked

to 159 after a PB and Jelly sandwich.

Hello ,

I had a glucose tolerance test run last month and the results came back

abnormal. I can't remember exactly.........and I didn't get a copy of the

results of the tests..........but I think they said my 2 hour level was 250

and should have been below 180??? I think that's what they said. Anyway,

the reason she got the tests so quickly is that she has some new machine in

her office that she is testing out. It was done with a finger stick instead

of a blood draw (although they also did a draw to check for accuracy on

their new machine) and within 6 minutes she had the results.

I seem to be having some higher b/g readings this week than I have in the

past 3 weeks. Not really sure what's going on either. I would say that 3/4

of my readings have been over 170 this week, whereas in the past 2 previous

weeks I only had 1 reading that was over 170. I am watching my carbs, but

that doesn't seem to be doing it this week. I guess that I will get the

hang of this soon.

Hi All. My name is Marie. I am new to your group. I

have all read the emails that I received, and even

though I am not a diabetic, you all have so much to

say and your correspondence with one antoher has

helped me greatly.

My boyfriend, Bob, is a diabetic who takes insulin 2

times per day and finds it frustrated to keep on the

diet and he gets very tired of blood monitoring. I

joined the group so that you all could help me to

understand in a positive way what I should be doing.

I would love the feedback. Marie

Were you suffering from any illnesses, a cold or infection? That

will cause the Bg rise as well. I found that out when I was sick. Or

were you not exercising as much? that also seems to play a big part

in control.

Hi Joyce

Welcome to the group. I'm sorry you have RA, and hope

you find fellowship here.

Doesn't it crack you up, when the doctor, or 2

doctor's tell you that a pain medication is working

for your inflammation.

I find that Naproxyn, gives me reflux, so I take

Ibuprofen, for my osteoarthritis. I'm sure you have

probably already tried it.

The Duragesic patches with Fentanyl in them, are

ridiculously expensive. Have you considered taking one

of the long acting morphine's, such as MSContin.

MSContin, is not very expensive, and lasts from 8-12

hours. Methadone, is fairly long acting, very cheap

too.

The 24 hour morphine products, are more expensive, but

they still might be cheaper than the Duragesic

patches, even the generic patches.

Once again, welcome to the group.
